APAD Extends Taxi & e-Hailing Vehicles Age Limit to 15 Years

The Malaysian Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has increased the age limit for taxi and e-hailing vehicles to 15 years. In-line with the Ministry of Transport’s aim to further improve public transportation and e-hailing services nationwide, this new regulation will apply to both taxi and e-hailing vehicles in Peninsula Malaysia, while only apply to e-hailing vehicles for East Malaysian states of Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan.

The extension will increase the taxi and e-hailing vehicles age limit from 10 years to 15 years, which applies to vehicles that have reached the maximum age limit within the period starting from Jan 1, 2023 onwards. Pending the approval from APAD, all applied vehicles must undergo and pass mandatory periodic inspections from certified inspection agencies like PUSPAKOM to ensure the runnability and reliability of the vehicles.
All taxi and e-hailing vehicle owners must also comply with other operational conditions in order to ensure the vehicle safety and user comfort on par with the high standards, the APAD statement reads.
For additional enquiries on the extension requirements and application, vehicle owners can visit the APAD’s official website or visit any nearby APAD offices.

The Land Public Transport Agency of Malaysia was formerly known as the Land Public Transport Commission – a Malaysian statutory body in charge of regulating, planning, and enforcing rules pertaining to land-based (road and rail) public and freight vehicles in the country. Following its rebranding as APAD, the agency now is fully under the Malaysian Ministry of Transport.
