New Generation Lexus LM Bows With Even More Tech And Luxuries
-full.jpg)
As rumoured prior, the next generation Toyota Alphard and Vellfire will see themselves underpin the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. However, Toyota have opted to kick things off for this new generation luxury MPV range through its Lexus luxury brand first.
Debuting during Auto Shanghai 2023 this week is the new generation Lexus LM and, from what we can see and garner, there’s indeed a lot more luxuries and tech primed on board that should see this Lexus-badged iteration retain its crown as the ‘King of Luxury MPVs’.

The new Lexus LM now sits 85 MM longer, 40 MM wider, and 10 MM taller!
To be more specific, the Lexus LM rides on the GA-K iteration of Toyota’s TNGA platform, which is the same base as the both the Toyota Highlander and RAV4 SUVs, as well as their luxurious Lexus-badged RX cousin.
Aptly, the Lexus LM is designed to provide a comfortable and luxurious experience for high net worth individuals (HNWI) who prefer being chauffeur-driven, but not in either an SUV or saloon. For that, the Lexus LM can be had with either four seats across two rows, as well as six or seven seats across three rows.
In terms of size, the LM sits 5,125 MM long with an unchanged 3,000 MM wheelbase figure, 1,890 MM wide, and 1,955 MM tall. The new exterior measurements represents an increase of 85 MM in length, 40 MM in width, and 10 MM in height .

Chassis torsional rigidity has increased by 50%, and structural adhesive is used to rude vibrations too.
Ride comfort has improved through increasing the chassis torsional rigidity by 50% higher over its predecessor. This was achieved through newly added braces on the radiator support and rear underfloor, a straight rocker structure, and a reinforced quarter pillar.
Additionally, structural adhesive is also used for the upper body and floor, which helps mitigate and reduce vibrations further.

New "AVS Suspension with Freqneucy-Sensitive Piston Valve" suite features a 'Rear Comfort' drive mode.
Through the new LM, Lexus is debuting an “AVS Suspension with Frequency-Sensitive Piston Valve” suite. This combines an Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) actuator and a frequency-sensitive piston valve in the shock absorber.
For this, the Lexus LM also gets a new ‘Rear Comfort’ drive mode that emphasises on rear-seat comfort. When active, the dampening force characteristics of the AVS prioritises rear-seat comfort, whilst the integrated control of the accelerator and brake reduces posture changes during acceleration and deceleration.

The choice between 6 or 7 seats across three rows and just 4 seats across two rows are available.

Third-row seats now boasts thick seat backs and cushions while second-row ottoman seats remains plush.
For seat development, passenger body movements were analyzed thoroughly to ensure a naturally relaxed state. The front seats optimise surface pressure distribution on its cushion to hold the body, regardless of the amount of G-force during turning.
Also, the second-row seats sees two types of shock-absorbing materials with different characteristics used, and these gently envelop and support the passengers from standstill to when the vehicle gets moving. Models with third-row seats, on the other hand, get thick seat backs and cushions that allow adults to sit comfortably too.

48-inch wide-screen display plus retractable glass partition are amongst the opulent features available.
In its most opulent form of the LM offered is the 4 seat model, which features a partition equipped with a striking 48-inch wide-screen display for rear seats. It even boasts a retractable glass partition above the display that separates the front and rear compartments whilst offering a clear forward view, whereas assist grips provide easy cabin entry and exit.
For China, the Lexus LM range sees hybrid-only 2.4-litre and 2.5-litre powertrains offered, the former being a turbo plus eAxle setup whereas the latter is a naturally aspirated unit paired with either a front-wheel-drive or E-Four rear axle setups.

In terms of safety, the new Lexus LM packs the full Lexus Safety System+ suite that includes Pre-crash Safety, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (with all-speed follow function), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Abnormal Driver Response System, as well as a thing called Proactive Driving Assist (PDA).
Other key luxuries worth noting include beverage refrigerators, second-row ottoman seats, 64-colour cabin ambient lighting suite, as well as retractable tables, amongst many.
