- Gentari Per/kWh Promotional Rates Ends, Expect To Pay Up To RM1.70/kWh Now!
-full.jpg)
Gentari has announced the end to its promotional per/kWh EV charging rate. This announcement was made via the SETEL App as the free Hari Raya charging period at selected charging stations came to an end on the 24 April 2023.
Gentari thus far only offers per/kWh at 4 locations namely Sunway Serene XPark, Bangi Golf Resort, Petronas Bandar Baru Ayer Hitam (Johor) and Petronas Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, JSAS (Ipoh). Gentari has from day one mentioned clearly the rates charged previously was a “promotional” rate.
Below are the new price structure announced for the four charging stations;
- AC up to 22kW – RM0.90/kWh
- DC up to 30kW – RM1.30/kWh
- DC 50kW-180kW – RM1.50/kWh
- DC 350kW – RM1.70/kWh
As we have mentioned before, charges per/kWh would seem to be the most ideal method of payment for consumers as every vehicle would only be charged based on how much actual juice is drawn in, regardless of OBC speed.
Having said so, why don’t all other CPOs actually go for this “fair” method of charge but instead stick to the conventional per/min charges? Well in a nutshell, it boils down to the heavy investment that CPOs are footing from the get go when setting up a station. The initial cost for these can run in the hundreds of thousands of Ringgits and, mind you, much of these initial setups are self-funded by the CPOs without or with very little government aid hence favouring the more lucrative per/minute method of charges. We have touched on this topic here.
