Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail), the operator of the Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT Line, announced that the comprehensive repair work (Phase 2) on the viaduct structure and tracks near the Bandaraya LRT Station is delayed and is expected to be completed, and normal operations resume on 29 February 2024.

The original plan for completing the repair work and restoring normal operations on this route was in mid-October 2023. However, the additional time is necessary because, in addition to the initial damage to viaduct 163, several other damages have been identified on nearby viaduct structures, namely viaducts 164 and 165, which require thorough repairs.

After consulting with engineering experts, additional work is required on these viaduct structures to ensure they are safe, meet specifications, and can fulfil the criteria for normal safe operations.

These repair works also involve consultation, assessment, and approval from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) of the Federal Territories, as support structures need to be installed along the Klang River adjacent to the affected LRT viaducts.

Safety considerations are a top priority for all parties involved in carrying out these high-risk tasks and this additional work has extended the timeline for the restoration work by 3 months.

Rapid Rail is extending its apologies for the inconvenience experienced by commuters. The decision to extend the timeline for the restoration work is to ensure that all damages are identified and repaired to guarantee the safety of public transportation operations and users.
