- Audi RS6 Avant GT Debuts As Race-Inspired Super Wagon
The all-new Audi RS6 Avant GT arrives as a racing-inspired estate with supercar-rivalling performance.
Compared to other renowned European manufacturers, Audi has always been the leading brand for sporty fast wagons, especially with their RS Avant series. To further up its wagon ante, the Ingolstadt-based marque has released a special version of its best wagon model, dubbed the Audi RS6 Avant GT.
Touted as the “pinnacle of the model series”, the RS6 Avant GT is draped in a unique livery design inspired by the iconic Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car from 1989, featuring Audi’s signature white, grey, black, and red racing colourways. This special wagon also comes with a blacked-out front grille and bumper, plus a more pronounced front splitter finished in red.
Besides the racing-inspired livery, the RS6 Avant GT also gets several carbon fibre aero parts
Both of its front hood and side fenders are carved out of carbon fibre to shed off as many weights as possible, with the latter part featuring vents to help reduce air pressure in the wheel arch and improve brake cooling. Besides the carbon fibre side mirrors, massive rear diffuser, and special 22-inch wheels, the GT wagon is also equipped with a motorsport-inspired double wing derived from the RS6 GTO concept.
Inside, the RS6 Avant GT cabin is laced with a slew of red-and-black design elements, featuring black upholstery with red stitching and several Dinamica microfibre trims. Besides the RS-staple honeycomb-embroidered seats and the default Audi virtual cockpit front dash layout, the GT model gets special “RS6 GT” embroidery on the two front seats, crimson red seat belts, special floor mats, as well as an individually numbered accent on the centre console.
The RS6 Avant GT harnesses a specially-tuned 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 mill
Beyond its cosmetic improvements, the RS6 Avant GT gets an all-important performance boost to make it one of the fastest wagons on the planet. Hiding beneath its carbon front hood is a familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 mill that now delivers 621 HP and 850 NM—30 HP and 50 NM more than the standard RS6. Said mill is still mated to the same eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox, which is then paired to Audi’s signature quattro all-wheel drive (AWD) system with the same centre differential as the RS6 Avant Performance.
These performance figures allow the manic RS6 GT to propel from nought to 100 KM/H in just 3.3 seconds, while the 0-200 KM/H sprint takes only about 11.5 seconds. Flat out, this super-wagon can go at up to 305 KM/H.
While most of its components are derived from the standard RS6 wagon, the GT model gets a novel adjustable coilover suspension setup with stiffer stabilisers, plus a specially tuned quattro sport rear differential. Said damper setup lowers the wagon’s ride height by 10 MM, while its adjustable nature promises a “perfect combination of dynamics and comfort.”
Helping this super-wagon to stop better is an RS-specific ceramic braking system, while the Continental Sport Contact 7 tyres ensure the RS6 GT maintains optimum grip under both dry and wet conditions, as well as reduced understeer during fast corners.
The production of this special Audi RS6 Avant GT is set to commence later in Q2 this year, with each of the 660 examples of this super-wagon being built by hand at Audi’s home base in Neckarsulm, Germany. Should you have €219,355 (RM1.122 million) to spare, this ultra-performance super wagon could be yours, if you’re lucky enough to be one of the first 660 people to book it.
