- Third-Gen MG3 Hatchback Teased Ahead of Geneva Debut
MG has teased the upcoming third-gen MG3 small hatch ahead of its debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show this month.
Sino-British marque MG has released a new teaser on its upcoming hatch model, the third-generation MG3. Set to make its global debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show later this month, the marque has given us a glimpse of this new sporty small hatch.
Starting with the first teaser image, it depicts the front face of the MG3, which understandably looks quite similar to its bigger sibling, the MG4 EV hatch. Besides that, the MG3 also gets a sporty front bumper design featuring a large front grille and air intake, plus what appears to be a carbon fibre front lip at the bottom.
Besides the front-face image, we can also learn more about the MG3 from the short video teaser published via MG’s official YouTube page. From the video, we can see that the new MG3 has a more conventional LED taillight design compared to the vertical, pillar-mounted ones we saw on the previous-gen model.
Aside from retaining the traditional five-door hatch body style, the new MG3 also rides on stylish five-spoke wheels, while its side is adorned with conventional door handles instead of the flushed automated ones we saw on its electric siblings.
Fortunately, the teaser campaign continues to the inside of the new MG3. As revealed by the second teaser image, the new MG3 gets a totally new cabin design. Key highlights here include the massive dual infotainment and digital metre displays floating on its front dash, a rotary-style gear selector instead of a traditional lever, diamond-quilted upholstery with contrasting stitches for the seats, and many more.
In a bid to keep the MG3 on the toes with its newer, all-electric siblings, the third-gen MG3 will be offered with a hybrid powertrain (HEV) setup, replacing the pure ICE unit used on the previous model. Although specific technical details were not disclosed, Carscoops reported that this HEV setup will use a 1.5-litre 4-cyl petrol mill, possibly derived from its predecessor, which is then mated to a single electric motor and a small lithium-ion battery pack.
The all-new, third-gen MG3 hatchback is poised to make its global debut later on February 26 at the upcoming 2024 Geneva Motor Show. Shortly after making its debut, this new hatch is expected to go on sale in selected markets like the UK, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific regions.
More importantly, there’s a high chance that we may see this new hatch make its debut in our market. In case you missed it, MG is planning to set up shop here in Malaysia, with both the marque’s official website and social media pages already up and running. Including the upcoming MG3, MG Malaysia is also reportedly planning to bring the Cyberster EV roadster, the MG4 EV, as well as the MG HS C-SUV into our market soon.
