- Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Open for Booking in Malaysia
Naza Eastern Motors (Suzuki Cars Malaysia) has begun accepting bookings for the new Suzuki Jimny 5-Door.
Following our previous report on Naza Automotive Group’s 2024 plans, Naza Eastern Motors, the official importers and distributors of Suzuki cars in Malaysia, has finally opened bookings for the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door. This stretched-out 4x4 SUV is slated to make its local debut some time later in Q3 this year.
The Jimny 5-Door is noticeably longer than the standard Jimny, offering more cabin and cargo space.
Unveiled in India last year, the new Jimny 5-Door is essentially a stretched-out version of the standard three-door Jimny 4x4, measuring 340 MM longer at 3,985 MM long, 1,645 MM wide, 1,720 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,590 MM. This increase in length not only allows extra room for the rear passenger seats but also grants the Jimny a larger boot space of 211 litres.
Aside from its stretched-out facade, the Jimy 5-Door looks identical to the standard Jimny, featuring the same boxy, retro-inspired design that has become very synonymous with its nameplate. While the details of the Malaysian-bound model have yet to be revealed, the Indian-spec Jimny 5-Door comes with some extra chrome bits on its front grille while riding on 15-inch wheels with a Y-spoke design.
On-board equipment is also not too shabby for the Indian-spec Jimny 5-Door, as it comes standard with a sizable 9-inch central infotainment screen offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an Arkamys audio system, a reverse camera view, as well as a slew of passive safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control (ESC), and many more.
The Indian-spec Jimny 5-Door gets the same 1.5-litre petrol mill as its three-door counterpart
On the powertrain front, the new Jimny 5-Door gets the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl K15B nat-asp petrol mill as the three-door model, producing 101 HP and 130 NM. For the Indian market, said mill is hooked up to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, which facilitates power delivery to Suzuki’s proprietary AllGrip part-time four-wheel-drive (4WD) system with a low-range transfer case.
Paired with its decent 210 MM ground clearance, the Jimny 5-Door is still a rather capable off-roader, despite its longer body, which grants it with a slightly reduced approach and departure angles of 36 and 47 degrees, respectively. For reference, the 3-door Jimny gets the same 210 MM ground clearance as the five-door model, although it boasts better approach and departure angles of 28 and 49 degrees, respectively.
Set to arrive later in Q3 this year, you can now place a booking on the new Suzuki Jimny 5-Door via Suzuki Cars Malaysia’s official website. With no price indication given by the automaker, we’d reckon it is safe to assume that the new Jimny 5-Door would cost slightly more than its three-door twin, which currently retails at RM174,900.
