- KTM ETS Express Service from KL to Ipoh to Commence in Aug 2024
KTM’s ETS express service from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh is poised to start from August 2024 onwards.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has announced a new express service for its Electric Train Service (ETS) line. From Aug 1, 2024 onwards, travellers from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh or vice versa can take the non-stop express service, which shortens the travel time to less than two hours.
Compared to the current KL-Ipoh normal ETS services, which take about two hours and 40 minutes, this new KL-Ipoh express service skips a few stations such as Sungai Buloh, Tanjung Malim, Kampar, and more. This express service embarks on either KL Sentral station or the old Kuala Lumpur train station before continuing its journey non-stop to Ipoh, Perak.
Take note that this new express service won’t outright replace the current service from KL to Ipoh, which is part of the main ETS line going all the way to Padang Besar, Perlis.
“This is an improvement from us for passengers from KL to Ipoh, in line with upgrading the system and infrastructure in the Klang Valley Double Tracking (KVDT) Phase 1 project, which is being completed in stages,” said KTMB COO Mohd Zain Mat Taha.
Besides the new KL-Ipoh express service, KTMB has also introduced several other new ETS express services from KL Sentral to Butterworth, Penang, and Padang Besar, Perlis. These new express services allow travellers from KL to go to Penang in just three hours and 30 minutes, while the express service from KL to Padang Besar will take four hours and 50 minutes instead.
For more information regarding the schedule and ticketing for these new KTM ETS express services, you can visit KTMB’s official ticketing portal.
