No Bicycles On ETS And Intercity Trains - KTMB
Bicycles are not permitted on Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB)'s ETS and KTM Intercity train services, the company announced. A notice of the bicycle ban was posted by KTMB on its official Facebook page. It has since gone viral, receiving over 1,200 reactions and over 360 comments.
The post from KTMB emphasized that ETS and KTM Intercity trains do not allow any kind of bicycle, and that the onboard amenities and seating are exclusively for passengers and their belongings.
KTMB clarified some questions raised by Malaysians regarding the bicycle ban and provided additional information about the notice in the post's comments section.
When KTMB states that all bicycles are not allowed on ETS and KTM Intercity trains, it means that even tricycles, electric bicycles, toddler bicycles, and folding bicycles that are packed in a bag are prohibited.
In addition, KTMB claimed that riders who bring bicycles on KTM and ETS Intercity trains will not be allowed to board. They won't receive a refund for the cost of their tickets.
Regarding that, KTMB stated that they will not provide a compound to permit the bringing of bicycles inside the two train services.
Bicycles, both folded and regular, are only permitted on KTM trains during specific times. Bicycle carriers are permitted on KTM trains in the Northern and Klang Valley regions.
The Northern sector includes routes from Ipoh to Butterworth and back, while the Klang Valley routes cover the Klang Valley, Tanjung Malim/Batu Caves, and Tampin/Pulau Sebang routes.
Folded bicycles are permitted on KTM trains on the Klang Valley routes at all times from Monday to Sunday, while regular bicycles are only permitted during two specific hours on weekdays: from 8.30 p.m. to 12.30 a.m. and from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meanwhile, on weekends and public holidays, regular bicycles are permitted in the trains.
Bicycle carriers are permitted on weekends and public holidays from 5.30 am to 11 am and from 8 pm to 12.30 am, while regular and folded bicycles can be on the train for the entire day in the Northern sector. Passengers traveling in KTM trains with regular or folded bicycles will not be charged for them.
