- Pirelli Develops New Winter Tyres For The G70 BMW i7 & 7 Series
BMW has teamed up with Pirelli to develop the latter's new P Zero Winter 2 tyres made exclusively for the G70-gen 7 Series and i7 flagship duo.
German luxury automakers BMW have teamed up with leading Italian tyremakers Pirelli recently. Borne out of this collaboration is a brand new winter tyre by the latter made exclusively for the former’s flagship 7 Series and i7 saloon (chassis code: G70).
Christened as the Pirelli P Zero Winter 2, these tyres are made to fit 20-inch wheels and were developed to focus on winter driving abilities, with claims of exceptional performance in wet and snowy conditions, plus “A Class” European label for low rolling resistance.
When fitted to the all-electric i7, the Pirelli P Zero Winter 2 made exclusively for it promises to extend said EV limo’s range by up to 50 KM over conventional winter tyres.
These tires set a new standard for all-electric vehicle tires, offering extended range, uncompromised comfort, and superior performance in winter conditions. Additionally, sustainability was at the core of these tyres’ development, hence the aim of using renewable materials where feasible to reduce the CO2 footprint of their manufacturing plants.
Presently, these new BMW-specific Pirelli P Zero Winter 2 tyres are developed to enhance the winter drivability of both the G70-gen 7 Series (right) and its all-electric i7 twin (left), promising increased winter EV range for the latter too.
Additionally, the Pirelli P Zero Winter 2 also bear BMW’s specific Star-Mark certification that indicates said tyres meet the high-performance and safety requirements set by the marque. It joins the likes of the Michelin’s Pilot Sport 4S, a BMW-approved evolution of the Pilot Sport 4S, in bearing this crest too..
Dr. Mihiar Ayoubi, senior VP of development driving pleasure at BMW Group, highlights the collaboration’s significant milestone in tyre tech. This sentiment stems from the P Zero Winter 2’s combination of high snow and wet performance with a positive impact on EV range during winter conditions.
According to both firms, the new P Zero Winter 2 tyres for the BMW 7 Series will enter retail markets starting Aug 2024. Both Pirelli and BMW also confirmed plans to extend this tech to other BMW models, beginning with the new BMW X3 in the latter half of 2024. KR
