This Bugatti Tourbillon Watch Has A Mini V16 Engine Inside It
Bugatti and Jacob & Co commemorate the launch of the new Tourbillon hypercar with a limited-edition timepiece.
In case you missed it, Bugatti recently unveiled the new electrified successor to the Chiron hypercar, cordially known as the Tourbillon. To commemorate this special occasion, the hypercar marque has collaborated with Jacob & Co to release a limited-edition timepiece inspired by its new hypercar model.
Just like the actual hypercar it is inspired by, the Bugatti Tourbillon watch features a miniature version of the Tourbillon’s V16 engine, with all the 16 pistons made from titanium, while the block is carved out of sapphire crystals. The expensive materials list continues with the watch’s case, as it is made from black titanium to contrast with its blue-and-silver inserts.
On top of its elaborate design, this special watch also features a unique 20-second sequence that shows the miniature V16 in action. This was made possible thanks to the over 557 moving components this watch harnesses on top of its 30-second double-pace flying tourbillon watch mechanism.
Joining this sophisticated mechanism are a twin power reserve, a crown that mimics the hypercar’s control knobs, as well as some sub-dials that match with the car’s dashboard and rev counter. All in all, Jacob & Co said this special watch features no less than ten design elements derived from the actual Tourbillon hypercar.
Both companies have been mooting about the idea of this special watch years before the Tourbillon hypercar was unveiled. After 18 months of extensive research and design collaboration between Bugatti and Jacob & Co’s design teams, the Bugatti Tourbillon watch is finally ready to be unleashed beside the hypercar it is inspired by.
"I live to push watchmaking to new levels, coming up with designs and complications that no one had even dreamed about. Bugatti is the same. They push everything beyond what everyone thinks is the limit. The Bugatti Tourbillon is our most advanced timepiece, the great achievement of a great partnership,” said Jacob & Co founder Jacob Arabo.
With only 150 units available, the Bugatti Tourbillon watch is definitely not a cheap buy!
Unfortunately, only 150 units of the special Bugatti Tourbillon watch will be made by both companies, each priced handsomely at $340,000 (RM1.603 million). Mind you, this is not the first time both companies have collaborated on a special timepiece, and both Bugatti and Jacob & Co previously launched the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon watch, which was limited to only 250 units and tagged at $280,000 (RM1.32 million) a piece.
