Porsche is set to end production of the ICE-powered Macan SUV (left) and both the 71 Boxster and 718 Cayman sportscars duo earlier than expected.

German sportscar marque Porsche is set to cease producing several combustion (ICE)-powered models earlier than initially planned, reports Reuters. Amongst them is the Stuttgart emblem’s best-selling Macan compact SUV, as well as its 718 Cayman and 71 Boxster sportscars duo.

The newswire had quoted Porsche executive board member Albrecht Reimold, who detailed that production of the ICE-powered Macan for non-European markets will end no later than 2026 – sooner than the firm had initially projected.

“The platform has reached the end of its cycle,” adds Reimold. By axing the petrol-powered Macan’s production, Reimold highlights that Porsche will shift its focus on the electric Macan successor to further push the marque’s sustainability agenda.

Porsche executive board member Albrecht Reimold noted that the ICE-powered Macan (left) has reached the end of its cycle, and he also confirmed European production of the 718 duo (right) have ended this year.

That aside, Reimold also added that production of the 718 Cayman and 71 Boxster will cease starting sometime next year (2025). The exec continued further by noting with Reuters that production of both models for the European markets have already ended this year.

All-electric (EV) successors to both the 718 Cayman and 71 Boxster are set to launch sometime next year, and prototypes of which have already been sighted undergoing initial road tests recently.

New and all-electric second-gen Macan is available in Macan 4 and Macan Turbo forms. They were shown locally recently and are now open for bookings at undisclosed prices still.

As for the Macan SUV, a fully-electric (EV) second-gen successor debuted in Singapore earlier this year ahead of planned market entry this year too. Said model also recently made its local debut last month and is now open for pre-orders at still undisclosed prices.

Underpinning Porsche’s new 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, the new Macan EV presently sees two variants availableMacan 4 and Macan Turbo. Both also harness peppy dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setups underneath juiced by a 100 kWh battery.
