The Pagani Utopia Roadster Is A V12-Powered Super Convertible
The new Pagani Utopia Roadster is a super convertible that hides a potent, 852 HP-rated V12.
The Pagani Utopia has often been described as a living art, thanks to its exquisite design and its ‘old-school’ powertrain setup, which many find refreshing in this day and age of electromobility. Now, the boutique automaker has peeled the wraps off its latest creation, which is known as the Utopia Roadster.
Essentially a topless version of the Utopia supercar, the new Pagani Utopia roadster is offered in both hard-top and soft-top versions. While the Utopia Roadster boasts no room to store its hard-top roof, those who opt for the soft-top version will get a dedicated suitcase to stash away the removable soft top, which has its own special compartment right next to the V12 engine bay.
Despite boasting a convertible roof setup, the Utopia Roadster still weighs the same as its coupe twin.
What’s more impressive is that despite the convertible roof setup, Pagani still managed to keep the Utopia Roadster’s weight the same as its coupe twin, which tips the scale at only 1,280 KG. This ensures that regardless of which versions of the Utopia customers fancy, they can expect to get the same level of performance out of these V12-powered monsters.
Aside from the redesigned convertible roof, the Utopia Roadster looks identical to its fixed-roof twin, as it retains all the coupe’s key design features, including the butterfly doors, the sculpted rear deck, and more. And just like the coupe, the Utopia Roadster is also offered with the Sport Pack configuration, which adds tons of carbon fibre parts to the exterior, including the exposed carbon Habanero Red hue.
Equally exquisite is the interior part of the Utopia Roadster, where Pagani took inspiration from luxury boats in designing the cabin. Present on the Roaster's innards are the new floor mats that feature unique texture finishes, an analog speedometer and rev-counter clocks, tons of physical switches and dials, and the centrepiece of the cabin—the exposed gear shifter that has become a signature in all Pagani models.
On the powertrain front, the Utopia Roadster gets the same powertrain setup as the coupe model, featuring an AMG-sourced 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 mill that delivers 852 HP and 1,100 NM. Said V12 mill is then mated to a choice of either a 7-speed automatic or manual gearbox, which helps to send power to the rear wheels via an electronic limited-slip differential (LSD).
Besides the manic V12 mill, the Utopia Roadster also benefits from an active suspension system as well as an innovative traction system called the Pirelli Cyber Tyre. Co-developed with Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli, this system is compatible with Pirelli P Zero Corsa, Winter, and Trofeo RS tyres, where it helps to send information from the tyres to the vehicle’s traction (TCS) and stability (VSC) control systems.
The all-new Pagani Utopia Roadster is set to make its inaugural public debut at the upcoming Monterey Car Week. With only 130 examples planned to be produced, a Utopia Roadster can set owners handsomely at €3.1 million (RM15.478 million), and that is even before any taxes or duties.
