Maserati has stopped the production of both the Quattroporte & Levante, marking an end to the marque’s V8 era.

The impending electromobility plague shows no signs of slowing down, this time consuming two victims at the same time. Maserati has stopped production for both the V8-powered Quattroporte and Levante from its lineup as the Italian automaker prepares for its electrified venture.

According to Autocar UK, the demise of these two models also marks an end to Maserati’s V8 era, as these are the only V8-powered models left in the marque’s lineup following the departure of the Ghibli saloon earlier this year. With the new GranTurismo getting the same Nettuno V6 as the MC20 flagship supercar, this means that we won’t be seeing any V8-powered Maseratis in the future.

The three aforementioned models are powered by a Ferrari-sourced 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged F154 V8 mill that can deliver up to 572 HP and 730 NM.

The Maserati Quattroporte Grand Finale is the final V8-powered Quattroporte ever made by Maserati.

To say goodbye to its storied V8 era, Maserati has delivered the last V8-powered Quattroporte model, cordially known as the Maserati Quattroporte Grand Finale. Finished in a unique Blu Nobile colourway, the final Quattroporte gets a special cover for its V8 engine, which has been etched with the signatures of the Fuoriserie bespoke team and the engineers who worked on the project.

With both the Quattroporte and Levante now dropped indefinitely, this means that Maserati’s new line-up now only comprises three core models, namely the Grecale SUV, the new GranTurismo, and the MC20 supercar, with the former two also featuring an all-electric variant each.

The V8 demise also means that Maserati now has only two powertrain options for its vehicle portfolio, which are the Nettuno V6 introduced on the MC20 first, as well as the Folgore all-electric powertrain setup. This is in line with the marque’s transition plan towards becoming a full-fledged EV marque via its Folgore BEV program.

“Maserati is in a transition period towards electrification with its Folgore BEV program. Today, the Trident offers the Granturismo and Grancabrio in ICE and BEV versions, Grecale in ICE, mild-hybrid, and BEV versions, while we confirm that successors of the Quattroporte and Levante are also in preparation,” Maserati’s official statement reads.

Rumours of the all-electric successor to the Quattroporte have been looming around for quite a while, with recent reports saying that the Italian automaker has delayed its production from 2025 to 2028.

Speaking to Autocar UK, Davide Danesin, chief engineer of the Quattroporte and Granturismo, said that the development for the new Quattroporte EV, codenamed MS9, was around halfway complete before it was pushed back. The chief engineer also highlighted that part of the pushback is due to the maximum EV range criteria imposed by the brand on its new EV saloon, with the new Quattroporte expected to boast a maximum EV range of more than 600 KM.

Despite the pushback, Danesin and Maserati insisted that the Quattroporte will always be an important model for them, and the marque’s decision to delay its production shows their commitment to making this new EV saloon “outstanding from any perspective.”
