BMW Group Malaysia showcases its latest G60-gen 5 Series lineup at the SKY5PACE event in the heart of KL.
BMW Group Malaysia has showcased the lineup for its new premium executive saloon model, the G60-gen BMW 5 Series, at its SKY5PACE event earlier today. At this event, the two 5 Series models, namely the locally-assembled (CKD) 520i M Sport and the i5 eDrive40 M Sport, were presented against the stunning backdrop of the Kuala Lumpur skyline.
G60-gen BMW 520i M Sport CKD
Starting with the former, the 520i M Sport is the latest addition to the G60 5 Series family in Malaysia, featuring an assortment of M Sport parts that sets it apart from the standard 520i model. The addition includes the M Sport body kit, the M Sport badges, 19-inch M Sport light alloy wheels hued in 935 M Bicolor, and the BMW Iconic Glow LED, while the cabin equipment list includes an M Sport design 3-spoke leather steering wheel, an M anthracite headliner, M accents in dark chrome, and many more.
Powering the 520i M Sport is a familiar turbo petrol mild hybrid (MHEV) powertrain setup comprising a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol mill that hooks up to a 48-volt integrated starter-generator (ISG). This MHEV setup sends 208 PS (153 kW) and 330 NM of power to the rear wheels (RWD) via an 8-speed automatic transmission, allowing a 0-100 KM/H sprint to be completed in 7.5 seconds and a V-Max of 230 KM/H.
The BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport is the first G60 5 Series model to make its local debut.
Moving on to its all-electric twin, the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport was the first model that ushered in the new G60-gen 5 Series into our market, with said EV saloon making its local debut last year. What’s unique about this particular i5 eDrive40 M Sport unit displayed at the SKY5PACE event is that it is cladded with the M Performance Parts.
This optional package adds some snazzy M-badged parts to the EV saloon, including the M Performance body parts such as the front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and side mirror caps, while riding on sportier 21-inch M Performance light alloy wheels with cross-spoke design finished in 943 M Bicolor hue.
Powering the i5 eDrive40 M Sport is a single, rear-mounted (RWD) e-motor setup rated at 340 HP and 430 NM, which is good enough for a decent century sprint time of 6 seconds. Juiced by an 83.9-kWH battery pack, the i5 comes with a maximum EV range of up to 582 KM, according to the WLTP standards.
Besides the new G60 5 Series lineup, BMW’s SKY5PACE event also features several models from the marque’s 7 Series flagship saloon lineup, including both the BMW i7 xDrive60 M Sport EV and BMW 750e xDrive M Sport plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Combined with the 520i M Sport’s MHEV setup, this product showcase highlights the premium automaker’s initiatives to meet the diverse powertrain preferences of their customers.
The all-new G60 BMW 520i M Sport CKD is now available for purchase at RM349,800 on the road, while the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport is tagged at RM399,800. Included with both prices are the BMW Group Malaysia Premium Ownership Experience package that includes BMW Roadside Assistance and Accident Hotline, BMW Service Online, and a complimentary 2-Year replacement car for BEV models financed using MW Easy Drive Financing and insured with BMW Comprehensive Motor Insurance.
To further complete your 5 Series ownership experience, both models are also offered with the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive (BSRI) package, which adds a 5-year extended warranty and service package to your car for add-on fees of RM26,900 for the 520i M Sport and RM20,300 for the i5 eDrive40 M Sport.
