- Jaecoo J7 PHEV Exceeds Expectation, Clocks 1,300 KM Driving Range
Malaysia recently participated together with six other nations in testing the Jaecoo J7 PHEV range ability in a marathon drive from Guangzhou to Wuhu, China. The six other countries which participated along with Malaysia were Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey, and the UK, all with the goal of covering over 1,300 KM using just one tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, without needing to stop for a recharge.
The drive which started on 16 Oct 2024, took 13 hours to complete. The route covered various Chinese driving conditions, from heavy city traffic during morning rush hour to national roads and intercity expressways. Officially, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV boasts a leading pure-electric range of 106km and an impressive fuel consumption rate of 5.99 litres/100 KM thereafter.
According to Chery Corp. Malaysia Executive VP, Leo Chen, “Range anxiety is a common concern among EV owners which is why Jaecoo organised this marathon to let drivers from around the globe experience the J7 PHEV’s long distance ability offering peace of mind.” He further noted that the J7 PHEV’s launch could not have come at a better time as the market now demands both performance and fuel efficiency.
Meanwhile, Emily Lek, VP of Jaecoo Malaysia, highlighted that the J7 PHEV exceeded expectations during the test, achieving 125.2 KM on pure-electric power - 19.2 KM more than its stated range.
She credited this to Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) Technology, which enhances energy efficiency. She also went on to add, “This sets a new benchmark for eco-friendly and cost-effective driving, and we’re excited to bring the Jaecoo J7 PHEV to the Malaysian market.”
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV, scheduled to officially launch in Malaysia later this year, shares its design DNA with the petrol-powered J7. However, the PHEV version comes equipped with a hybrid engine that extends travel range, 40kW DC fast-charging capability, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology - perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who need power on the go.
Two variants will be available:
- All-Wheel Drive (AWD), featuring seven driving modes: Economy, Standard, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road.
- Two-Wheel Drive (2WD), offering three driving modes: Standard, Sport, and Economy.
Both variants come with a large 18.3 kWh battery, a 60-litre fuel tank, and can deliver an impressive 525 Nm of torque, ensuring a powerful yet fuel-efficient driving experience. According to Emily Lek, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV will also offer a range of customisation options, including different colours, rim designs, and interior enhancements, allowing drivers to personalise their vehicle while maintaining Jaecoo's philosophy of "From Classic, Beyond Classic."
Registrations of interest (RIO) for the Jaecoo J7 PHEV will open at its preview event, held from Oct 23 to Oct 27 at Sunway Pyramid, ahead of the official launch later this year. Deliveries are expected to begin by Feb 2025.
