Heads up for Proton X70 face-lift owners, there's new OTA software update for the upgraded 12.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, and it brings wireless Apple CarPlay!
National carmaker Proton has rolled out a new over-the-air (OTA) software update for its face-lifted X70 C-segment SUV model’s upgraded infotainment unit. In fact, P1 took to its official Facebook and Instagram pages earlier today to announce said update’s availability and a short guide of owners to obtain it and enable one critical new feature.
As a refresher, the face-lifted Proton X70 first debuted back in early Aug this year before it was officially launched circa mid-Aug this year. The refreshed line-up sees four variants available priced from RM98,800 onwards, all sharing the same 1.5-litre TGDi 3-cyl turbo mill under the hood too, plus a host of aesthetic changes inside and out.
Critically, the face-lifted X70 also gained a trick new 12.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen display with upgraded RAM and storage which, at the time of launch, did not feature either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity. However, both were promised by P1 via upcoming OTA software updates such as the one released this week.
As detailed in the video attached above, owners can obtain this OTA update easily by simply connecting their infotainment units to a stable internet connection – preferably whilst stationary and parked. Proton adds that the update cycle – download, installation and reboot – only takes a few minutes to perform before the newly added feature is accessible.
Once the update is complete, face-lifted X70 owners will then be able to start using the new Apple CarPlay connectivity suite. Best of all is the fact that Proton has elected to adopt the wireless version of said proprietary in-car iPhone connectivity suite. Through this exercise, the Proton X70 facelift model now stands as the marque’s first model equipped with this feature.
One of the key updates for the X70 facelift was its upgraded 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment that boasts more RAM and storage - likely factors that have enabled the new wireless Apple CarPlay suite.
For now, this latest OTA update patch benefits X70 facelift units only, and owners of which who use Apple iPhone devices. A second OTA update is expected in the coming months, and this is set to enable its rivalling Android Auto suite instead. However, exactly when this update will be rolled out remains undisclosed.
Nevertheless, the arrival of Apple CarPlay has long been expected, and early adopters of the face-lifted X70 model ought to breathe a sigh of relief that this new convenient tech has been enabled.
