National automaker Perodua inked several agreement with Petronas and its Gentari subsidiary earlier this week, with the latter critically focused on EV charging.

In preparation for its planned first electric vehicle (EV) model launch, second national carmaker Perodua has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gentari Sdn Bhd – the green energy arm of national oil and gas giants Petronas.

Through this agreement, Perodua will collaborate with Gentari by allowing the latter to set up EV charging facilities at its service centres ahead of its planned new EV model launch mentioned – likely set to take place during KLIMS 2024 next month.

Perodua's MoU with Gentari stems from the fact that the former is poised to debut its first EV model as early as next month whilst the latter present boasts the largest licenced DC charging network in the country.

Key initiatives in this collaboration besides installing EV chargers at Perodua service centre will also include offering access to EV charging subscriptions, home charging solutions, seamless integration with the Gentari Go platform, as well as accessing EV chargers at Petronas stations.

Presently, Perodua boasts 194 sales and 204 service centres nationwide whilst Gentari currently boasts the largest licenced DC charging network in Malaysia with 175 active DC charging points.

According to Perodua, this effort will support its customers in their transition to EVs. “Overall, these MoUs will allow seamless cooperation between both national companies to serve our customers better,” said Datuk Sri Zainal Abidin, President and CEO of Perodua.

Besides Gentari, Perodua also inked a similar agreements with Petronas Lubricants Marketing Sdn Bhd (PLMMSB), Mesra Retail & Cafe Sdn Bhd (Mesra), and Setel Ventures Sdn Bhd (Setel).

“By improving charging accessibility and convenience, Gentari aims to enhance the experience for future Perodua EV drivers, thus elevating customer satisfaction and building loyalty,” adds Gentari Deputy CEO Shah Yang Razali.

Besides Gentari, Perodua also inked a similar agreements with Petronas Lubricants Marketing Sdn Bhd (PLMMSB), Mesra Retail & Cafe Sdn Bhd (Mesra), and Setel Ventures Sdn Bhd (Setel). Through which, all parties are poised to provide Perodua customers access to new services.

Highlights include integration of Setel’s seamless digital payment feature into Perodua’s UFirst app, the establishment of Mesra outlets for added convenience plus opening up Perodua service centres at selected Petronas stations.

“Perodua and PLMMSB have been partners for over 20 years and that partnership has proven mutually beneficial and we will further expand this partnership that will benefit our valued customers,” adds Datuk Sri Zainal Abidin about this other collaboration.
