Launched: Proton X50 SE – Just 1,000 Units, RM98,300
As planned, national automaker Proton officially launched its new X50 Sport Edition (X50 SE) last night virtually. As a refresher, this special variant was first previewed last month at KLIMS 2024 with Proton initially stating that a limited-run production was planned for release soon.
Ahead of last night’s virtual launch that was streamed online, Proton had taken to social media earlier this week to confirm that just 1,000 units of the Proton X50 SE will be up for grabs. Now, we finally have a firm price for it too – RM98,300 excluding insurance.
The price includes the special RM7,000 rebate that Proton is currently offering for purchases of the X50 model specifically throughout Jan 2025 as part of its festive New Year sales campaign. Otherwise, the actual RRP for the Proton X50 SE is RM105,300.

Thanks to the special RM7,000 rebate offered on X50 purchases throughout Jan 2025, the 100-unit only X50 SE sees itself priced at RM98,300 instead of its RRP of RM105,300.
From last night’s virtual presentation, as well our observation sizing up the special model up during KLIMS 2024, there’s indeed plenty to look forward to. Though based on the X50 Premium variant, the SE is brimmed with RM10,000 worth of additional features and accessories, says Proton.
Being based on the Premium variant does see this special miss out on adopting the Flagship variant’s peppier direct-injected powertrain package. Instead, it harnesses the familiar 1.5-litre 3-cyl MPI turbo petrol lump and 7-speed DCT automatic package, the former rated at 150 PS and 226 NM.

The X50 SE easily stands out thanks to its special Quarts Black paintwork, red accents, gloss black trims and wheels, as well as a series of special badges.
Aesthetically, this variant is marked out firstly by its exterior’s exclusive Quartz Black paintjob, followed by its red-accented four-piece aerokit (front splitter, side skirts, and rear faux diffuser), red shoulder line stripe and grill inlay, and new gloss black trims instead of chrome.
Next comes this sporty special’s familiar 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, albeit finished in gloss black instead. Completing the exterior are a series of special badging in the tailgate, door sill scuff plates, as well as Proton logo puddle lamps primed in the front doors.

On board, the cabin has also been fashioned to match the exterior's black-red motif. One key addition here is the Qi wireless smartphone charging pad.
Moving into the cabin and this special also gains a black-red interior colour motif, complete with special SE-badged floor mats, to match the exterior. One key addition is a Qi wireless smartphone charger too. All else on board remain unchanged from the X50 Premium it’s based on.
This Premium variant base also means the X50 SE does NOT have any ADAS features primed – this is reserved for the range-topping Flagship variant. Instead, you’ll find this special getting the full array of basic safety features such as six airbags as seen the Premium variant.

Just 1,000 units will be available, and all will come with a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty, six times free labour service, as well as a 5-year data plan (capped at 1GB monthly).
Lastly, as per purchases of any other X50 now, Proton X50 SE buyers also enjoy a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty coverage, six times free labour service package, as well as a 5-year data package (capped at 1GB monthly) all included.
So, what do you reckon then folks? Are you digging this special? Would you be keen to be amongst the 1,000 owners of this special variant? Share your take in the comments below, as well as through our social media pages…
