Amongst the key new metal that officially launched at this week’s Bangkok International Motor Show 2025 (BIMS 2025) is the new C28-generation Nissan Serena e-Power MPV. The model’s market entry into said Kingdom was expected for some time now.

First previewed in Thailand back in Nov 2024 when the Malaysia-made C27-gen Serena S-Hybrid predecessor was launched, the C28-gen follow-up sees one lone Highway Star variant announced for sale priced at a hefty THB1.69 million (approx. RM220,769).

The C28 Serena e-Power is marketed in Thailand solely in Highway Star guise and sees just two exterior paintjob options offered - Turquoise Blue (left) and Prism White (right).

Even at that price figure, local Thai media are hailing the C28 Nissan Serena e-Power as the most affordable Japanese import on sale in the Kingdom right now. Perhaps such a title – and status – could help with pushing its sales throughout the Kingdom just north of our border.

However, it is also worth noting also that the Malaysia-made C27-gen Serena model mentioned remains on sale in the Kingdom still despite the C28-gen successor’s official launch. Said predecessor also has a cheaper THB1,469,000 (approx. RM191,946) price tag too.

Under the hood, the C28-gen Serena employs Nissan's e-Power EREV/REEV powetrain tech which boasts ultra-high fuel efficiency - Nissan even touts a average fuel economy rate as low as 5.5 litres/100 KM.

As its name suggest, the C28 Nissan Serena e-Power harnesses the Japanese automaker’s e-Power electrified powertrain tech as seen in the Kicks model that was recently launched locally – it’s effectively an extended-range/range-extender hybrid (EREV/REEV) setup.

It consists of a 1.4-litre 3-cyl petrol engine serving as a generator to charge up a 1.77 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a front-mounted e-motor rated at 163 PS and 315 NM. A key highlight to this setup is its ultra-high fuel efficiency, with Nissan claiming an average of 5.5 litres/100 KM.

On board, there's seating for 7 across three rows in 2-2-3 layout plus flexible luggage space.

On board, Thai buyers get the C28 Serena primed with a three-row, 7-seat (2-2-3) cabin layout that’s also complemented with various storage cubbies and bins. Notably, the third-row seats can be folded up to expand cargo space while the second-row sees a pair of captain seats.

Digital displays up front in the dash consists of an interactive 7-inch digital instrument panel plus a wide 9-inch touchscreen infotainment primed with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Present below which too are physical controls for the climate control and gear selector.

Mounted front and centre is a wide 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, and there are physical controls for the climate control and gear selector below which.

Also primed as standard for the Thai market is the Nissan Intelligent Mobility Safety System package that brings IEB, LDW, BSW, as well as ICC.

As for safety, the Nissan Intelligent Mobility Safety System comes as standard equipment, and it brings Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), as well as Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC).

Thailand is now the latest market in the region to receive the C28 Nissan Serena e-Power after Singapore and Indonesia. All signs now point towards Malaysia being the next market to receive it, and it will likely be locally assembled (CKD) like its predecessor.
