- BYD Drops Prices Drastically at BIMS 2025 – Bad News for Existing Owners?
The BYD Shark 6 PHEV pickup made its much-anticipated ASEAN market debut in RHD configuration at the ongoing Bangkok International Motor Show 2025 (BIMS 2025), launching at a hefty THB1,699,900 (RM220,000).
This puts it as the most expensive model in BYD’s lineup in Thailand. However, despite the buzz around the Shark 6, the real highlight of BYD’s presence at the BIMS 2025 was the unexpected and aggressive price cuts announced across the brand’s entire range.
This move comes despite the Thai government’s mid-2024 announcement that it would scrutinise BYD’s discounting practices. The decision followed reports that sales personnel had misled customers about price stability, only for prices to drop further soon after purchase.
With these latest reductions, it’s likely more complaints will surface post-BIMS 2025.
BYD’s entry-level Dolphin now comes with a discount of up to THB110,000 (RM14,200), bringing the Standard variant down from THB569,900 (RM73,500) to THB499,900 (RM64,400) and the Premium from THB709,900 (RM91,500) to THB599,900 (RM77,300).
The popular Atto 3 follows suit with a THB100,000 (RM12,900) price cut, with the Premium variant now at THB699,900 (RM90,200) and the Extended at THB799,900 (RM103,000).
The M6 EV MPV, a budget-friendly electrified people mover, also sees adjustments, with the Dynamic model now selling for THB799,900 (RM103,000), down from THB829,900 (RM106,800), while the Extended variant drops from THB929,900 (RM119,700) to THB899,900 (RM115,900).
Meanwhile, the Seal receives some of the most significant reductions. The Dynamic now goes from THB1,325,000 (RM170,600) to THB999,900 (RM128,700), the Premium from THB1,449,000 (RM186,500) to THB1,099,900 (RM141,700), and the AWD Performance from THB1,599,900 (RM206,000) to THB1,199,900 (RM154,500).
Even BYD’s latest addition, the Sealion, is not spared. The Sealion 7 Premium now retails for THB1,149,900 (MYR148,200), down from THB1,249,900 (RM161,100), while the AWD Performance drops from THB1,399,900 (RM180,400) to THB1,249,900 (RM161,100).
The brand’s only other hybrid offering besides the newly launched Shark 6 PHEV, the Sealion 6 DM-I, also sees price reductions. The Dynamic variant now sells for THB899,900 (RM115,900) instead of THB999,900 (RM128,700), while the Premium falls from THB1,099,900 (RM141,700) to THB999,900 (RM128,700).
With this sweeping round of price cuts, BYD is turning up the heat in Thailand’s EV and hybrid market, putting even more pressure on competitors. However, while new buyers will undoubtedly welcome the lower prices, existing customers may not be as thrilled.
This aggressive discounting not only undercuts resale values but also raises concerns about trust in BYD’s pricing strategy. If you had just bought a BYD before this drastic drop, how would you feel?
