- GWM Tank 500 Now Open for Booking – Est. Below RM350,000
GWM Malaysia has opened the order books for the GWM Tank 500 4x4 SUV with a tentative price of below RM350,000.
Following its teaser last week, GWM Malaysia has officially opened the order books for its upcoming 4x4 SUV, the GWM Tank 500. Announced via GWM Malaysia’s official Facebook page, this three-row off-roader will be tentatively priced below the RM350,000 mark, where orders can now be made at any authorised GWM outlet nationwide.
Initially previewed at last year’s Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024), the Tank 500 is positioned as the brand’s flagship 4x4 SUV, featuring three rows of seats and tons of amenities. Dimension-wise, this large SUV spans 5,070 MM long, 1,934 MM wide, 1,905 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,850 MM.
Similar to the Tank 300, the Tank 500 gets a pretty rugged and boxy SUV bodystyle, although the latter skews towards the luxury side. With design cues like squared LED headlights flanking its massive front grille, large 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, and vertical LED taillights, the Tank 500 looks very similar to some large American SUVs.
The handsome exterior design is matched with a luxurious cabin brimming with tons of premium amenities and equipment. Key highlights include a large 14.6-inch infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-speaker Infinity sound system, leather-upholstered powered seats across three rows, built-in sunshades, and many more.
For the Malaysian market, we’ve been told prior that the Tank 500 will arrive solely in its parallel hybrid (HEV) form, which is the same spec being sold in Thailand. The HEV version uses a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine rated at 241 HP and 380 NM as its core, which is augmented with an electric motor rated at 105 HP and 268 NM, plus a small 1.75-kWh battery pack.
Combined with its nine-speed hydraulic automatic transmission (HAT), the Tank 500 HEV boasts a total system output of 346 HP and 648 NM, allowing this large SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 KM/H in 8.3 seconds. More importantly, this semi-electrified setup also grants the Tank 500 HEV a sublime fuel consumption rate of only 8.5 litres per 100 KM, GWM claims.
