Jetour X70 Plus Renamed As ‘VT9’, RM130,000 Estimate Price Hinted
Remember the Jetour X70 Plus that was previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024? Well, it has been renamed, and it could launch very soon.
At long last, we now have clear indication of what Jetour Malaysia will rename its upcoming X70 Plus model as. We first caught wind of this earlier today on Facebook thanks to postings by an eager dealer before we chanced upon stumbling into the model’s official teaser website too.
We’ll start with the social media post noted and, though it has been edited and amended, we were able to capture a screenshot of it early on where the original caption included the new ‘Jetour VT9’ name. After which, we did what anyone would – we typed it up in our Google search bar.
We first caught wind of this via Facebook postings by an eager dealer, which initially leaked the new name (see screenshot above).
UPDATE [17/4/2025]: We've updated and amended our report from this point on. That's because Jetour Malaysia representatives reached out to us and clarified that an internal miscommunication led to the official teaser preview page going online ahead of schedule. Said webpage has since been taken down, and Jetour Malaysia also confirmed that Registration of Interest (ROI) for the VT9 is not open yet.
Initially, a quick scroll down the results page revealed that Jetour Malaysia has indeed quietly established an official teaser preview page, but it has since been taken down. However, through which, we can confirm that the new 'VT9' name was used throughout.
With that, we’re now certain that the newly renamed Jetour VT9 should see steer clear of further legal troubles and conflicts from a certain national automaker that markets a rather popular crossover SUV model with a similar name – specifically, this one.
We'll add that this new 'VT9' nameplate appears exclusive for the Malaysian market too as the original X70 Plus name remains in other markets.
Based on what we've gathered, what was previously known as the X70 Plus will be called the VT9, and said new name seems exclusive for the Malaysian market only.
Besides the new name, the same Facebook posting by the eager dealer mentioned also indicates a possible official launch sometime this month (April), as well as an estimated price tag of RM130,000. Indeed, there’s much to dissect from both.
Firstly, the alleged estimated price seems plausible given that the smaller Dashing two-row, C-SUV model was recently launched at far lower figures – RM109,800 (Comfort) and RM116,800 (Prime). As a refresher, the VT9 is positioned as a slightly larger three-row, D-SUV offering.
Critically, said price figure also puts this new Jetour up directly against both the Proton X90 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. For context, the former is priced between RM123,800 and RM152,800, whilst the latter commands RM159,800.
The alleged RM130,000 estimated price tag sees this new Jetour VT9 set to rival directly against the Proton X90 (left) and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro (right).
Secondly, the alleged ‘official launch’ at the end of this month perhaps seems unrealistic given that Jetour Malaysia just launched the Dashing earlier this month. Instead, we’ll bet that early previews at showrooms will take place instead.
As for an actual launch date itself, we reckon Jetour Malaysia might seize the initiative and officially launch the new VT9 publicly at next month’s Malaysia Autoshow 2025. However, don’t take our word on that just yet.
As seen last year at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, the Jetour VT9 (formerly X70 Plus) is positioned as a D-SUV offering with three-row seating for seven.
Nevertheless, these findings only indicate that Malaysian consumers are really spoiled for choice now. You can get to grips with what was formerly known as the Jetour X70 Plus through our initial preview report by clicking here.
Well, what do you reckon folks? Like its sibling the Dashing, could this left-field D-SUV number tickle your fancy too? What would you expect it to pack with its alleged RM130,000 estimated price tag? Hit the comments below with your take on things...
