- Tesla Model Y Long Range Upgraded, Now Offers 600 KM WLTP Range
Tesla Malaysia quietly updated the specs for its Model Y Long Range AWD, with the variant now officially offering a WLTP-rated range of 600KM, up from the previous 551 KM.
This marks the most significant change since the end of the special Launch Series edition earlier this year, where the Model Y Long Range AWD’s 0–100 KM/H acceleration time was tweaked to 4.8 secs from the earlier Launch Series’ 4.3 secs.
Meanwhile, the base Model Y RWD remains unchanged, retaining its WLTP-rated range of 466KM and a 0–100 KM/H sprint time of 5.9 secs.
The source of the increased range remains uncertain, as Tesla rarely discloses detailed battery specifications or supplier information. While some speculate that the boost is due to the adoption of new LG battery technology, based on previous conversations with Tesla Malaysia staff, the company remains committed to improving its offerings through better energy optimisation and software tuning rather than major hardware changes.
Regardless of the reason, the additional range is undoubtedly a welcome improvement for prospective buyers.
Pricing remains unchanged for now. The Model Y Long Range AWD continues to be priced at RM242,450, while the Model Y RWD starts from RM195,450, excluding options and insurance.
Tesla continues to offer a variety of customisation options including paint colours priced between RM5,000 and RM11,000, a white interior for RM5,000, and 20-inch ‘Helix 2.0’ wheels for RM11,000. Driver-assist packages remain available with Enhanced Autopilot at RM16,000 and Full Self-Driving at RM32,000.
All Malaysian Model Y units are sourced from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai, with local deliveries currently ongoing. While the Launch Series exclusives are no longer available, this latest update adds value to the current lineup, especially for those prioritising maximum range in an EV.
