- Previewed: Omoda C9 PHEV – Up to 605 PS, 1,100 KM Range, Est. RM220K
Also previewed for the first time at the Omoda | Jaecoo Carnival is the upcoming Omoda C9 PHEV.
Also previewed alongside the Jaecoo J5 at the Omoda | Jaecoo Carnival is the new Omoda C9 PHEV. This is essentially the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the C9 D-segment SUV, set to debut towards the end of this year.
From the visual front, you can see that the C9 PHEV looks painstakingly similar to its combustion-powered counterpart, featuring a sporty coupe-like SUV bodystyle with tons of striking design elements. The only notable exterior differences are the charging port on the rear-left quarter panel, as well as the PHEV badge on its tailgate.
The same can be said for its interior, as the C9 PHEV adopts the same cabin setup as the ICE version. Some key features include the dual-screen setup housing both the infotainment and digital metre cluster, powered, ventilated, and heated front seats with massage functions, a large panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lights, a Sony audio system, and many more.
Keen eyes will notice that the C9 PHEV now comes with a new drive mode selector, which features both the EV and HEV driving modes.
Perhaps the biggest and most important change lies under the hood, where the C9 PHEV adopts Omoda & Jaecoo’s proprietary Super Hybrid System. While it uses the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged Miller Cycle engine as the J7 PHEV, the C9 PHEV is mated to three electric motors to deliver a combined system output of 605 PS and 915 Nm, making it the most potent model under O&J’s arm yet.
This impressive power figure translates to a quick century sprint time of only 4.9 seconds, while harbouring an impressively low combined fuel consumption of only 1.7 litres per 100 km, Omoda & Jaecoo claims.
The battery system has also been updated, with the C9 PHEV getting a larger 34.46-kWh LFP unit that offers up to 150 km of EV-only range, as well as a comprehensive range of over 1,100 km. And like any other modern PHEV, it supports both DC and AC charging methods at 70 kW and 6.6 kW rates, respectively.
For an enhanced ride quality, the C9 PHEV also comes with the Continuous Damping Control (CDC) active suspension system as the ICE-powered C9 AWD. With up to five sensors, the CDC can adjust the suspension response at up to 100 times per second, while offering up to seven driving modes for both on- and off-road terrains.
As mentioned above, the upcoming Omoda C9 PHEV will be making its local debut towards the end of the year, with a tentative price tag of RM220,000. And just like the rest of Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia’s lineup, this PHEV SUV is also slated to be locally-assembled (CKD) at Chery Corporate Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam.
You can check out both the Jaecoo J5 and Omoda C9 PHEV, as well as other products from Omoda| Jaecoo Malaysia and iCaur Malaysia, at the ongoing Omoda | Jaecoo Carnival, happening from Aug 21 to 24 at Car Park 3 of Desa Parkcity, with doors open from 10 AM to 10 PM.
