A power trip caused one of the aerotrains at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to halt temporarily, just hours after Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) had announced the service’s return to full round-the-clock operations.

The incident occurred at 1.36PM yesterday as the train was approaching the satellite terminal. KLIA said in a Facebook post that “all passengers were safely exited via the central platform walkway according to our standard operating procedure.”

The other aerotrain continued running as usual, with passenger transfers between the main and satellite terminals unaffected.

KLIA apologised to travellers inconvenienced by the disruption. Service was resumed at 4.24PM after contractor Alstom rectified the affected aerotrain.

Earlier today, MAHB announced that the aerotrain had resumed 24-hour operations following scheduled maintenance works carried out from Aug 18–31. The maintenance, conducted between midnight and 5am daily, was intended to fine-tune system responsiveness and reliability based on operational data since the aerotrain’s relaunch on July 1, 2025.

Contractor Alstom had also tested updated signalling software during the maintenance window. MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the exercise reflected the group’s commitment to reliability and service excellence.

The aerotrain, an iconic feature of KLIA since its 1998 opening, recently underwent a RM456 million overhaul under the airport operator’s RM742 million Regeneration Plan. The project involved replacing the ageing fleet and modernising related infrastructure.
