Revealed by Porsche through a virtual world premiere, in the Hyperbowl Studio at the Munich Trade Fair Centre is the, 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Tursimo.
2021 Taycan Cross Turismo is Porsche’s expansion on their first all-electric sports car range. This off-road version of the company’s Taycan Sports saloon series will be made available in the second half of 2021.
Porsche AG’S chairman of the executive board Oliver Blume states, “In 2019, we sent out a key signal with the debut of our first all-electric sports car. In 2020, one in three of all vehicles we delivered in Europe had an electric powertrain. The future belongs to electric mobility, as with the Taycan Cross Turismo, we’re taking another major step in this direction.”
There are a total of four Taycan Cross Turismo Variants. Each comes standard with the Performance Battery Plus, which has a total capacity of 93.4 kWh and a new high-tech chassis with all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension.
First variant is the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo. It has an output of 280 kW (380 PS) and an over-boost power with Launch Control at 350 kW (476 PS). Able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 220 km/h with a (WLTP) range of 389 - 456 km.
One up, is the second variant, Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. It has an output of 360 kW (490 PS) and an over-boost power with Launch Control at 420 kW (571 PS). Able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 240 km/h with a (WLTP) range of 388 - 452 km.
Coming to the third variant is the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo. It has an output of 460 kW (625 PS) and an over-boost power with Launch Control at 500 kW (680 PS). Able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h with a (WLTP) range of 395 - 452 km.
Topping it all off with the fourth variant, is the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo. It has an output of 460 kW (625 PS) and an over-boost power with Launch Control at 560 kW (761 PS). Able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h with a (WLTP) range of 388 - 419 km.
Its build is taken from the innovative electric drive with 800-volt architecture that came from the Taycan sports saloon. Paired to a drivetrain with a ‘Gravel Mode’ that further enables the suitability of the new variant to be driven on rough terrains.
Tested in accordance with the new Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo rates at a combined consumption of 29.4 - 28.1 kWh/100 km with CO2 emissions of 0 g/km.
Aesthetic characteristics, the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo gets its inspiration from the Mission E Cross Turismo concept study that was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018.
Porsche AG’s head of Taycan model line Stefan Weckbach said, “With the Taycan Cross Turismo, we wanted to offer a little bit more space, a little more flexibility and versatility, we developed a completely new roofline, fitted with roof rails, a more generous second row and bigger trunk, all to make a car that is perfect for an active lifestyle. A car that is perfect for both an urban environment and the countryside.”
Designers at Porsche dub it as ‘flyline’, the sporty roofline that’s sloping downward to the rear which defines the Taycan Cross Turismo’s silhouette. Other off-road design essences fitted are wheel arch trims, unique front and rear lower aprons and side sills.
As it can be seen with a robust rear outlook, the 2021 Taycan Cross Turismo offers 47 mm more headroom for rear occupants. Also for the load capacity, it is able to manage more than 1,200-litres, which is made possible through the large tailgate.
Prior to the official launching, Porsche’s Taycan model line chief Stefan Weckbach, has taken the highly anticipated all-electric cross utility vehicle (CUV) out for a test run on the empty rural roads, east of Weissach.
“In order to enable it to handle light off-roading and gravel roads, we increased the ground clearance. And we optimized our suspension system so the Cross Turismo comes with a CUV specific driving mode. This makes sure it does well on gravel roads in terms of stability, performance, and dynamics,” Weckbach further commented.
The company further offers an optional Off-road Design package, which increases the ground clearance by up to 30 mm. The package also includes special flaps at the corners of the front and rear bumpers and at the ends of the sills. These make for a striking exterior and provide protection from debris impacts.
Other than that, another optional accessory made exclusively for the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, is a rear carrier that can handle up to three bicycles. It comes with an innovative feature that allows the tailgate to open even when the rear carrier is loaded.
