Meet The MG Cyberster Electric Roadster, The World's First Mass-Produced Electric Roadster
Meet the MG Cyberster; an electric roadster with a soft-top convertible. The patent images depict a stylish sports car with a nearly classic appearance. The Cyberster will go into production in 2023 and will serve as a draw for the thriving MG brand.
The MG Cyberster first appeared as a concept car at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show. Of course, the production version has been toned down slightly, but the basic design has changed very little. The roof is the most noticeable difference. MG had to come up with something new here because the concept car didn't have any.
The side profile is attractive, though the front overhang appears to be a little long. The side creases and even the alloy wheel design are very similar to the concept car.
The roof will be stored beneath a panelled rear deck. The back end is probably the best part of the design, with arrow-shaped lights, an integrated spoiler, and a diffuser with an F1-style fog light in the middle. Wide skirts on the sides, with winglets in front of the rear wheel. The door handle is located directly behind the door. It appears that the Cyberster will have standard doors.
There is currently no information available about the powertrain. The concept had a high-tech four-motor setup, but the production car will most likely have a single or twin-motor setup. SAIC, the owner of the MG brand, has a large inventory of electric motors to choose from. If they truly want to stay true to classic MGs, the Cyberster should only be available with rear-wheel drive.
The MG Cyberster will most likely be the world's first mass-produced electric roadster. Tesla's new Roadster won't be available until 2050, making it more of a high-end, expensive supercar. Mazda, which launched the modern roadster craze with the MX-5 Miata in 1989, is another name that comes to mind.
