According to the NHTSA's Child Restraints Usage Study, approximately 46 percent of car seats and booster seats are improperly installed or used.

Hyundai Motor America recently announced a collaboration with Memorial Health's Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital of Savannah and Safe Kids Savannah to help fund child passenger and driver education programmes.

The car maker’s collaboration with Children's Hospital of Savannah will allow Safe Kids Savannah to assist more families in southeast Georgia, while also continuing its child passenger and driver safety efforts to support its goal of preventing accidental motor vehicle injuries.

Safe Kids Savannah, a local coalition of organizations and concerned individuals with the common goal of preventing accidental childhood injuries and deaths, is led by the Memorial Health Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital of Savannah.

The donation collection will go to consumer education events, such as upcoming car seat safety check events with Children's Hospital of Savannah and Safe Kids Savannah.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect car seats for expiration, manufacturer recalls, and proper child seat fit during the events whereas families will be given a free replacement car seat if one is required.

Technicians will also teach caregivers and families how to choose, install, and use an appropriate child seat.

"Proper education and installation of safety seats is critical to the injury prevention of children, drivers, and others on the road," said Brian Latouf, Hyundai Motor Company's global chief safety officer.
