Porsche has built its 100,000th Taycan
First unveiled as the Mission E concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Porsche Taycan has been in production since Sept 2019. It has since evolved with a major software update this year on top of seeing its range grow to include both the Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo variants.
Today, the German sportscar marque signals yet another milestone for its groundbreaking Taycan electric model as the 100,000th unit built rolls off the line in Zuffenhausen. Said unit, dressed in Neptune Blue, was assembled on Nov 7 and happens to be a right-hand-drive (RHD) unit destined for a UK customer. Besides the UK, the Taycan’s most popular markets include both the US and China, according to Porsche.
Supply chain issues in the first nine months of the year did see Porsche’s electric vehicles (EVs) delivery rate drop by 12% compared to the same period in 2021, totalling 25,073 units thus far for 2022. Nevertheless, Porsche says that this hasn’t hampered demand for the Taycan, with the current order book “remains large” according to the Stuttgart-based sportscar maker.
Apart from quickly reaching the 100,000 mark, Porsche were also keen to note that plenty of owners have racked up more than 100,00 KM in mileage with their respective Taycans.
Notable too is the accolades and recognition garnered by the Taycan through leading German auto titles Auto Bild and Auto Motor und Sport. The former smashed the 100,000 KM barrier with a Taycan 4S in an endurance test that began way back on Oct 17, 2020 and ended earlier this month. Auto Motor und Sport, on the other hand, recently took delivery of a Cross Turismo 4 that’s destined for the magazine’s renowned long-term test fleet with the goal to cover 100,000 KM in a targeted two-year window.
Locally, the Taycan range also received a very warm reception amongst Malaysian Porschephiles since it first entered the market back in Sept 2020. Presently, Porsche Malaysia (Sime Darby Auto Performance) officially offers the Taycan range between RM508,000 and RM934,000 depending on body style and trimline variant thanks to the present EVs tax incentive from the government.
