The dawn of the electrified age sees many manufacturers conjuring up pure electric performance SUVs to appease both the unprecedented demand for such and the ever-stricter emission regulations. Fortunately (or not), some marques still put faith in their powerful combustion engines and opt for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version instead of going full electric in order to ‘bypass’ said regulations.
One of said marques is Jaguar, who debuts the latest version of their performance SUV, the F-Pace. The 2024 Model Year (2024MY) F-Pace comes in both petrol and diesel options, as well as two special variants, namely the P400e PHEV and the up-specced SVR.
Albeit boasting minimal design upgrades, bulk of the 2024MY F-Pace’s updates stem from technological and hardware upgrades, especially for the PHEV P400e variant.
The F-Pace P400e gets a larger 19.2-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides up to 64 KM (WLTP) of all-electric travel range – a 20% increase from the previous generation. Supporting both AC and DC charging, the F-Pace P400e now takes about half an hour to charge up to 80% via 35 kW DC fast charging. Meanwhile, a full charge via the 7 kW AC charging takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
In terms of performance numbers, this PHEV SUV comes standard with an all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration and an eight-speed automatic gearbox from ZF, same as the rest of the 2024MY F-Pace variants. Powered by a 2.0-litre petrol ICE and an electric motor, the F-Pace P400e outputs about 398 HP and 640 NM, thus enabling a 5.3 seconds finish in a 0-100 KM/H sprint.
For the 2024MY version, the F-Pace comes in five trim levels, namely the R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE, R-Dynamic HSE, 400 Sport and the range-topping SVR. All three R-Dynamic variants come with a choice of either the diesel or petrol ICEs, as well as the aforementioned P400e PHEV powertrain, too.
Aside from the PHEV and SVR variants, the F-Pace’s powertrain option comprises of 246 HP four-cyl petrol, 160 HP and 201 HP mild hybrid (MHEV) four-cyl diesels, 296 HP six-cyl diesel MHEV and 395 HP six-cyl petrol MHEV.
The range-topping F-Pace SVR boasts Jaguar’s proprietary 5.0-litre supercharged V8 mill that delivers 542 HP and 700 NM. Paired with the same eight-speed auto transmission, the SVR blasts from nought to 100 KM/H in only 4 seconds, while capable of reaching a V-Max of 286 KM/H.
In the styling department, the baseline F-Pace R-Dynamic S rides on a set of 19-inch wheels, while its upper-spec siblings get the larger 20 and 21-inch wheels respectively. On the other hand, the special 400 Sport and SVR variants will don a massive set of 22-inch wheels, finished in Gloss Silver with contrasting inserts.
All of the 2024MY F-Pace variants now come standard with Black Pack styling package that applies Gloss Black finish on the door mirrors, grille, window surrounds, fender vents, rear badges and more.
For the interior, every model in the F-Pace range has the latest Pivi Pro infotainment system that offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay mobile connectivity, as well as built-in Amazon Alexa voice command function. Being a luxury performance SUV, the F-Pace’s cabin is laden with leather upholstery and finish, as well as textured wood veneers on its dash.
Drivers will also get a new TFT instrument cluster display that comes with two-dial configuration with a switchable centre panel display. Plus, a wireless charging pad comes standard from the R-Dynamic SE onwards. Meanwhile, the SVR model gets some specific SVR trims inside, too.
The 2024 Jaguar F-Pace SUV starts at £48,660 (RM265,990) for the entry-level 2.0-litre diesel option, while the range-topping SVR commands a higher £84,940 (RM464,307) price tag. Jaguar fans might as well indulge themselves with this new F-Pace, as it will probably be some of the Jag’s final-ever ICE production models as the British marque is poised to become an EV-only brand by 2025.
