Gran Turismo 7 Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Latest Trailer Video

Though Dec 23, 1997 may seem like any other regular day leading up to Christmas, said date stands as a landmark date for many driving game enthusiasts. That’s because that is the very day developers Polyphony Digital released the first iteration of its groundbreaking Gran Turismo title for the Playstation.

Fast forward to the present, said driving game title celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this week. Released earlier this year is the seventh and current iteration of which, Gran Turismo 7, and it continues to enthral many fans – new and old – on both the Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 consoles.

Apart from the improved gameplay, graphics, and driving dynamics, the title took on a whole new realm once it gained online connectivity. This has perhaps accelerated the growth of what we’ve come to know as e-sport racing, and the rest, as they say, is history.

To commemorate its half-century mark, developers Polyphony Digital have released a special trailer online that depicts the game’s evolution through the years. Said evolution is astounding to say the least, more so following the revelation by lead developer Kazunori Yamauchi on its beginnings – it started with him, two part-time artists, and three engineers. Today, the development team totals over 200 personnel.

Beyond the game itself, Gran Turismo is set for further expansion as it heads on to the silver screen soon with its self-titled feature live-action film. Yamauchi, of course, sits on the production as its executive producer, and the movie is set for a planned release sometime in August 2023.

Until then, players can still look forward to more update patches from Yamauchi and his team, not to mention the countless hours of endless fun virtually driving and racing their dream cars, all from the comfort of their couches at home.
