Racy Ford Mustang Dark Horse Gets Optional Carbon Fibre Wheels

Ford has confirmed that the racy new Ford Mustang Dark Horse will see carbon fibre wheels offered as an optional upgrade.
Besides improved performance, these also grants what is regarded as the most track-focused Mustang with extra bragging rights as this type of option is more common amongst higher end sportscars costing at least twice – or three times – that of the Mustang.

These carbon wheels were made in collaboration with a firm called Carbon Revolution, and they were subjected to over 200 tests for “structural and environmental validation” in order to prove their strength and rigidity prior to production plan approvals. According to Ford, these are 37% lighter than the Dark Horse’s standard aluminium wheels, saving an average of 9.1 KG in un-sprung mass.

The wheel itself is a single-piece measuring 19-inches and sport a five-spoke design with lug nuts located between the spokes as it does in the classic Mustang. Added protection from brake heat comes from the combination of ceramics and metals sprayed inside the front wheels via “plasma arc spray process” – said technique itself derived from the advanced aerospace industry.

As the most powerful and track-focused iteration of the new seventh-gen Mustang, the Dark Horse is set to take the mantle of the outgoing Mach 1 special. Much of this stems from its employment of an uprated version of the Mustang’s 5.0-litre Coyote V8 mill that produces at least 500 HP and 566 NM of twist.
This isn’t the first time that the mighty Blue Oval marque has offered such exotic wheels in what is perhaps regarded as its iconic and staple sportscar offering – a similar option was offered in the previous Shelby GT500, as well as the GT supercar. No prices for these carbon wheels upgrade were disclosed yet but expect them to command as serious premium, as how other tasty options for the Dark Horse are.
