Porsche Opens First Charging Lounge In Germany
Porsche opened its own opulent Charging Lounge in Bingen am Rhein, Germany, presenting its own interpretation of the EV experience.
The lounge is the first of its kind, and the brand plans to introduce the idea to other European nations fairly soon. It offers six 300-kW DC fast-charging stalls in addition to four 22-kW AC charging points.
The Charging Lounge, which is only a few minutes from the busy A60/A61 intersection, is planned to be open around-the-clock and offers a roomy, opulent interior stocked with snacks and soft drinks.
To enter the lounge itself, a Porsche ID is required; however, there is an automated system for that as well. An automatic licence plate recognition system will let the car in if the licence plate of a specific Porsche is saved in the computer. Additionally, even if the licence plate isn't saved in the system, drivers can still access the station by using the MyPorsche app, scanning a QR code, or inserting their Porsche Charging Card.
"With the Porsche Charging Lounge, we are creating another important touchpoint along the customer journey and showing how convenient charging can be for Porsche customers," said Alexander Pollich, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche Deutschland GmbH.
Solar panels on the building's roof help the station produce some of its own electricity, but the majority comes from a dedicated grid connection. Speaking of power, the station itself is equipped with Alpitronic, a South Tyrolean specialist, 300-kW chargers. Porsche also believes that 400-kW chargers will enable even faster charging speeds in the future.
A physical workout in front of a smart mirror, another feature currently provided by the lounge, might not be feasible given the drastically reduced amount of time one would have to spend in one of these lounges.
