Upcoming Alfa Romeo Supercar Has A Name, Debuts On Aug 30

Alfa Romeo's sole teaser for its upcoming new halo supercar that's now reportedly named as the '33'.
Celebrated Italian marque Alfa Romeo is set o debut its brand new flagship supercar on Aug 30 and, according to Autocar UK at least, it won’t be called the ‘6C’. Instead, Alfa Romeo has turned to its rich racing past for inspiration, and said new flagship supercar will be christened as the ‘33’.
Apart from a teaser image released depicting the 33’s intake grille of some sort, no other details were released, hence the rife speculation online by multiple sources. Nevertheless, this latest scoop by the British automotive title mentioned earlier at least gives us its name at least, for now.

Inspiration reportedly stems from the gorgeously curvy Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale from the late 1960s, of which just 18 were built. As its name aptly suggests, the modern rendition of which will also just 33 units made, and all are reportedly spoken for too despite their rumoured price tag north of €1 million.
Coincidentally, the 33 will also have a projected top speed (V-Max) of 333 KM/H, though there are still no concrete details surrounding its powertrain. Previously, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato hinted that it will harness combustion power instead of all all-electric setup.
What was rumoured previously is that the 33 will harness the 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo mill developed by Ferrari. Presently, Alfa Romeo fields said powertrain in the range-topping Giulia sports sedan, specifically the Quadrifoglio and its subsequent GTA and GTAm limited-run specials.

Alfa Romeo's last limited-run, halo supercar was the 8C Competizione (pictured) and Spider. A total of 829 units were made between 2007 and 2010.
However, other rumours also suggested that the 33 could be loosely based on the Maserati MC20 mid-engined sports coupe, and that it could get a hybrid petrol-electric twist too. Nevertheless, we won’t have long to wait given the 33’s reported debut date of Aug 30.
Certainly, the 33 is set to follow in the same footstep as Alfa Romeo’s last flagship halo sports coupe, which was the 8C that was built between 2007 and 2010. A total of 829 units were built, 500 of which in hard-topped Competizione form, and the remaining 329 in open-top Spider form.
