Report: PDRM Issued Over 2.56 Million Traffic Summons Thus Far In 2023

According to local reports, PDRM issued over 2.56 million traffic and road violation summons to offenders within the first 8 months of 2023 alone.
According to reports by local dailies Malay Mail and Utusan Malaysia, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has issued over 2.56 million traffic and road violation summons to offenders in the first 8 months of 2023 alone.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mat Kasim Karim said that 1.52 million of which were K257 summonses – ones issued on the spot. A further 1.03 million were K170A compounds, which are issued for offences caught on cameras or when enforcement is carried out.
Datuk Seri Mat Kasim further notes that highest number of offences involved violating traffic signs, which totalled at 985,635 summonses. “These include exceeding the speed limit, disobeying traffic signals, driving in the emergency lane, cutting across double lines, queue jumping and using a mobile phone while driving,” he adds.
He continued further and noted that 555,002 licence summonses were issued to offenders who did not possess valid licences or had an expired licence. Continuing from which, 205,464 summonses involving accidents were issued, while a further 187,120 were compounded for number plates that did not comply with JPJ specifications.

Separately, reports also indicate that PDRM issued 116,103 postal summons ('saman ekor'), all of which carrying an estimated value of over RM34 million.
Separately, Utusan Malaysia also reported that a total of 116,103 postal summons (‘saman ekor’) were issued too, with an estimated value of over RM34 million, throughout the country via an operation that started on 21 Aug.
Datuk Seri Mat Kasim also noted here that car drivers recorded the highest number of summonses at 3,203, while 20,569 summonses were issued against other vehicles including four-wheel drives (4×4), vans and taxis. Another 1,757 summonses were issued against commercial vehicles plus 574 to motorcyclists.
