Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari) in partnership with PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), has launched an Electric Vehicles (EV) Fast Charging Modular and Portable Station with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the Behrang Lay-by (Northbound).
The Gentari Behrang Lay-by (Northbound) would house two (2) units of the two (2) gun Kempower smart charging DCFC module each capable of 100kW outputs (50kW per gun) linked to a solar panel and BESS. This DCFC is not accessible for the time being based on the JomChange mobile app as it is still undergoing testing. The “live” date is still not confirmed.
The launch event was graced by Malaysia’s Minister of Works, YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Works, YBhg. Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad. PLUS Chairman, Dato’ Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif, UEM Group Managing Director and PLUS Board Member, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, PLUS Managing Director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar, and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Gentari and Chief Executive Officer of Gentari Green Mobility, Shah Yang Razalli, and Managing Director of EV Connection, Ir Lee Yuen How were also present.
Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasised the significance of the collaboration between PLUS and Gentari in promoting eco-friendly transportation and supporting Malaysia's sustainability goals outlined in various national plans.
PLUS Managing Director, Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar, underlined PLUS's commitment to national sustainability by aiming to install 100 DCFC EV charging stations across its highways by 2025, fostering an ecosystem for the transition to EVs.
The innovative charging stations for public use, incorporating solar panels and BESS, is the first of their kind in Malaysia and will be rolled out moving forward in phases from 2023 to 2024, starting with four lay-bys along PLUS highways. All this future sites will offer up to 200 kW of DC charging power with four charging points each.
In addition, AC charging points at existing PETRONAS petrol stations at PLUS R&Rs and lay-bys will be upgraded to DCFC points, and Gentari will establish DCFC charging points at additional PETRONAS petrol stations along PLUS highways and nearby locations by 2024. This initiative aims to provide confidence to EV users travelling between states.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Gentari and Chief Executive Officer of Gentari Green Mobility, Shah Yang Razalli, highlighted the importance of this partnership in advancing the EV ecosystem in Malaysia and enhancing range confidence for EV users.
Since its introduction in June 2022, Gentari has deployed over 180 charging points in Malaysia and over 160 charging points in India, with a mission to be a leading clean energy solutions partner in the Asia Pacific region by 2030, capturing a significant market share of charge points and Vehicle-as-a-Service (VaaS) offerings.
