This Artisan GT-R Is How The New Nissan GT-R Should Look Like!
Nissan GT-R reimagined by Artisan Vehicle Design, featuring design cues taken from the R34 Skyline GT-R
The iconic Nissan R35 GT-R is entering its twilight phase, with this two-door sportscar making its global debut more than 15 years ago. While rumours have suggested that Nissan is planning to revive the GT-R badge in an all-electric guise in the future, renowned tuning house Artisan Vehicle Design has built a custom Nissan GT-R model inspired by some of its retro predecessors, notably the R34 Skyline GT-R.
Built upon the standard Nissan R35 GT-R, this custom-built model comes with a full carbon body, with the firm replacing each of the GT-R’s standard body panels to shed some weight and improve the body stiffness. More importantly, these new body panels feature design inspired by the R34 GT-R model, which essentially transforms the standard GT-R into a modern embodiment of the R34 model.
Aside from body styles, the Artisan GT-R also comes in several retro-inspired colourways, including the R34’s Bayside Blue, Midnight Purple, Millennium Jade, as well as a white hue with red accents derived from the Nismo GT-R model.
On board, the Artisan GT-R’s carbon-laden cabin is now equipped with more modern creature comforts compared to its ageing donor. Key highlights include the portrait-oriented central infotainment screen, the new front dash and door cards design weaved in carbon fibre, the carbon fibre steering wheel with Alcantara grip, as well as the bucket-style carbon seats also wrapped in Alcantara upholstery.
Beyond all these items listed, Artisan Vehicle Design said customers are able to add-on or customise the cabin any way they want it, with the firm saying there is ‘no limit’ to what they can offer to their customers.
The Artisan GT-R gets the same six-pot VR38DETT mill as the regular GT-R, albeit with much-improved state-of-tunes
Aside from the extensive body work and cabin revamp, folks at Artisan have also tweaked the powertrain setup for this custom-built GT-R model, with two variants available for customers to pick from. The baseline Track variant sees the standard GT-R’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 VR38DETT mill now outputting 800 HP, while the top-specced Ultimate variant boasts a higher system output of a whopping 1,000 HP.
Besides tweaking the powertrain, both variants of the Artisan GT-R also get an upgraded brake system and an improved suspension setup while riding on beefier and stickier sets of tyres.
Unfortunately for JDM enthusiasts, this custom-built GT-R only exists in the virtual world for now, with Artisan poised to unveil the first real-world prototype at next year’s SEMA show, taking place some time in late 2024. Set to be produced in Hannover, Germany, only 36 units will be up for grabs worldwide, each rumoured to cost about $450,000 (RM2 million approx.).
