Proton Welcomes Implementation Of “Lemon Law”

Proton recently expressed support for the proposed “Lemon Law” by the government, which aims to safeguard consumers better from defective vehicle purchase.
At the same time, the nation's leading automaker however also emphasised the need for a balanced approach that considers manufacturers' rights as well, reports FMT.
The notion was tauted by Proton's deputy CEO, Roslan Abdullah. The exec expressed his support for efforts to protect consumers while emphasising the importance of protecting manufacturers, who are also consumers who rely on external suppliers for parts.
The government's investigation into Lemon Law legislation follows reports of the recent newly purchased defective vehicles cases. This prompted it to consider implementing similar best practices as seen in countries such as the United States, Singapore, South Korea, China, and the Philippines.
Roslan added that Proton may consider offering a service-and-repair inclusive option for its vehicles, which would cover repair and replacement costs for a set period of time in exchange for improved customer service. This initiative is in the works, with a possible pilot programme based on improved customer satisfaction.
Furthermore, Proton is also working to improve part availability, aiming to provide minor collision parts within a week and more serious accident parts within two months.
Roslan further notes that Proton currently has a three-month parts buffer allocated for 155 service, sales, and spare part centres throughout the country. Beyond which, Proton is also poised to establish five more parts centres.
The latter should allow the carmaker to demonstrate its superior service coverage in comparison to other Japanese competitors whilst also emphasising its commitment to customer satisfaction.
