DC Handal 200 kW DCFC @ WCE Assam Jawa LIVE 2nd APRIL - RM1.50/kWh
CariCarz.com revealed a leak back in Dec 2023 about the first DCFC to be placed at the WCE Assam Jawa Toll Plaza Northbound (Exit 3210). Three (3) months later, we’ve learned that the charging facility will become operational tomorrow, 2nd April 2024 just in time for the Hari Raya travel season.
This recently opened toll plaza connects the Assam Jawa Interchange to the Bandar Bukit Raja Utara Interchange, allowing cars from Kapar, Selangor, to travel directly to Assam Jawa.
As we’ve reported prior, the delay this time was due to TNB’s readiness rather than licencing, most likely because it is a new highway after all. Moving forward, let us hope that the other EV charging facilities established along this route will be able to go live sooner.
Yes, you read correctly: DC Handal will be setting up several more stations along the WCE route, which we will unveil in due time.
The WCE Assam Jawa EV charging point by DC Handal will have a 200 kW Kempower DC charger equipped with two CCS guns capable of charging two EVs at the same time.
Despite being a single cabinet dual-gun arrangement, the Kempower dynamic charger can adjust charging based on the connected EV's state of charge (SOC). Those with lower SOCs will receive higher input, so a simple top-up here should get you to the next charging station.
As for pricing, we are informed that it will be based on the regular DC Handal rate of RM1.50/kWh.
There are currently no concrete facts available regarding billing rates. Nonetheless, based on all DC Handal DC charging stations activated thus far, EV users will most likely be charged RM1.50 per kWh.
Accepted payment methods include debit or credit card, MyDebit (NEW), Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, as well as virtual payments via the JomCharge and ChargEV apps. Integration into the recently introduced Gentari Go app would arrive in due course - this is not available yet.
To date, DC Handal has installed 49 electric vehicle charging bays (EVCB) across 15 stations nationwide, with more on the way.
Now the question is, with DC Handal being the only CPO that does not have an app, they are in an ideal position to become a plug-and-charge service provider similar to Tesla. Will this be their next move?
