Shown for the first time in Malaysia is the new second-generation and now all-electric Macan.

Besides the face-lifted and upgraded 2024 Porsche Taycan EV saloon, Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP – Porsche Malaysia) also seized the opportunity to preview the new and all-electric 2024 Porsche Macan during the Porsche World Road Show (PWRS) held at the Sepang International Circuit.

Set to launch locally later this year, two variants were presented, those being the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo

As a refresher, the new and all-electric Macan first debuted globally in Singapore earlier this year. Though positioned to succeed the combustion (ICE)-powered Macan, both models will be sold side-by-side still in select markets. Whether that happens in Malaysia remains to be seen still.

Two variants were shown, those being the base Macan 4 and a higher-end Macan Turbo (above).

Underpinning Porsche’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) base with an 800-volt architecture, both variants of the Macan EV are juiced by a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Both variants also harness Porsche’s PSM dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setups, albeit with differing outputs.

With Overboost activated, the base Macan 4 sees its driveline output 402 HP and 650 NM to enable 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 5.2 seconds and a 220 KM/H V-max. Said base variant also offers the most range at 613 KM (WLTP).

As for the Macan Turbo, it raises things to 630 HP and 1,130 NM (with Overboost), thus enabling century sprints in a 911 GT3-beating 3.3 seconds and higher 260 KM/H V-max. The peppier outputs and higher speeds does come at the price of range, with Porsche touting just 591 KM (WLTP).

Both are primed with the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) rear diff, but the Macan Turbo gets a more sophisticated PTV Plus that enables the rear motor to act as a locked diff. Both also get four-wheel steering – a first for the Macan – that sees the rear tyres turn up to 5-degrees in either direction.

Added agility is promised further thanks to the Macan EV’s adoption of Porsche’s latest dual-valve dampers, which also promises enhanced agility.

And despite growing in size slightly over its predecessor, the Macan EV boasts high aerodynamic efficiency. This stems not only from its sleeker design, but also from key elements such as an active rear spoiler, active cooling flaps, plus a sealed underbody, all delivering low-drag figure of just 0.25 Cd.

The growth spurt sees the second-gen Macan offer a larger cabin decked out with Porsche's latest and greatest tech.

The growth spurt also sees this new all-electric Macan offer a larger and more practical cabin. Concurrently, it also gains a larger standard boot space of 540 litres, which can be expanded to 1,348 litres. It’s also supplemented with a sizeable 84-litre ‘frunk’.

Key tech present includes Porsche’s latest 12.6-inch digital curved instrument display, 10.9-inch Android Automotive OS-powered central infotainment touchscreen control with optional passenger display, augmented reality (AR) heads-up display (HUD), and an intelligent voice assistant module.

SDAP hasn’t revealed any tentative pricing schemes for either variants, but did confirm that it is now accepting pre-orders for this second-generation successor to Porsche’s best-selling SUV.
