ChargEV BESS System with Grid Integration For Charging Stations - Up To 240 kW
chargEV recently unveiled its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at The International Gallery, KLGCC Resort.
BESS will support two 120 kW DC fast chargers with four charging nozzles and one 22 kW AC charger with two charging plugs. Altogether, it provides a total of six charging bays for the community once operational.
The inauguration was officiated by Tuan Mohammed Rashdan bin Mohd Yusof, Chairman of Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission), Ir. Dr. Sanjayan Velautham, Chief Operating Officer of Suruhanjaya Tenaga, and Datuk Lai Shu Wei, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer of Sime Darby Property.
chargEV’s BESS, designed for Malaysia’s unique grid profile, addresses existing power supply limitations by integrating an energy storage buffer between the energy grid and the charging station. This stable and optimised power supply allows EVs to be charged faster while providing peak-shaving benefits to site owners.
Developed and assembled in Malaysia by the chargEV team to comply with the highest international standards, this energy management technology complements chargEV’s end-to-end solution for site owners, ensuring a seamless charging ecosystem. It represents a significant step towards meeting Malaysia's sustainability goals, including the installation of 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025.
Following the pilot project, chargEV’s integrated BESS solution will enable the deployment of fast charging systems across Malaysia, particularly in sites previously deemed unsuitable due to a lack of power supply.
This includes facilities along highways, suburban areas, and high-traffic urban locations, which are high-priority areas for EV infrastructure development. BESS comprises 430 kWh LFP battery units with a 250 kW nominal power and 430 kWh energy rating, capable of delivering between 120 kW to 240 kW output with a 100-amp input.
Compared to the current systems at R&R Behrang by JomCharge and Gentari, which rely solely on solar energy and have faced challenges during peak travel seasons, chargEV’s BESS offers a more robust solution with grid integration.
In the long term, chargEV’s BESS technology opens new avenues for integrating renewable energy sources to power EVs while providing a second life for EV batteries.
In the immediate future, chargEV plans to work closely with current charging site owners to expand and upgrade existing stations to include BESS integration. The company also aims to collaborate with the Energy Commission to continue developing comprehensive energy management solutions across Malaysia.
