Geely’s Radar RD6 EV Pick-Up Truck Set for Thai Debut – Malaysia Next?

Geely’s Radar RD6 EV pick-up truck is slated to debut in Thailand later in Nov this year. Is Malaysia next on the list?
Big news has recently broken in the northern bordering Kingdom, as Thailand is slated to welcome Geely’s Radar RD6 EV pick-up truck into its market. As reported by Autolife Thailand, this midsize EV truck is set to debut at the upcoming Thailand International Motor Expo (TIME) later in Nov this year, making Thailand one of the first right-hand drive (RHD) markets to get the model, alongside Australia.

Unlike in China, the Radar RD6 will be known as the Riddara RD6 for the international market, including both Thailand and Australia. News of the RD6 making its way into the Thai market was broken by a Facebook post by EV Thailand News, showing a truckload of the RD6 EV spotted in the kingdom recently. Not to mention, Riddara Thailand’s official Facebook page has also been set up.

A quick guide on the RD6, this midsize pick-up truck is loosely based on the Geely Haoyue SUV, also known as the Proton X90 in our local market. Dimension-wise, the Radar (or Riddara) RD6 measures 5,260 MM long, 1,900 MM wide, 1,865 MM tall, and has a wheelbase of 3,120 MM, making it roughly similar in size to other midsize trucks sold in Thailand, such as the Isuzu D-Max, Toyota Hilux, and many more.

The Haoyue/X90 inspos can be seen on the RD6’s overall design, as this pick-up truck was penned by the late Peter Horbury, the same guy who penned many other Geely models such as the Haoyue/X90 itself, the Proton X70 (also known as the Geely Boyue), and many more.

Using the same SEA platform as many other Geely EV models, the RD6 is available in four powertrain variants.
Underpinning Geely’s proprietary SEA platform, the Riddara RD6 is available in four variants in its native Chinese market. Starting with the baseline Standard Range variant, it gets a single, rear-mounted (RWD) electric motor rated at 272 HP and 384 NM – allowing a decent 0-100 KM/H sprint time of six seconds and 185 KM/H V-Max. Juiced by a 63-kWh battery pack, the RD6 Standard Range offers up to 410 KM (CLTC) of EV range.
Moving on to the Long Range variant, this model gets the same RWD motor setup as the Standard model, which in turn is juiced by a larger 86-kWh battery pack for a longer CLTC range of 550 KM. Should you need more range, the RD6 also comes in the Super Long Range Variant, which still uses the same RWD motor but with a much larger 100-kWh battery pack that allows a healthier CLTC range of 632 KM.
Sitting atop the aforementioned RWD variants is the range-topping RD6 Horizon 4WD, which comes with a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup. Rated at 428 HP and 594 NM, the top-spec RD6 gets a quicker century sprint time of 4.5 seconds and a slightly higher V-Max of 190 KM/H. Using an 86-kWh battery unit, the RD6 Horizon 4WD’s CLTC EV range is capped at 520 KM.

Regardless of variants, the RD6 supports both AC and DC charging methods, with the former capped at 11 kW and the latter at 120 kW. As per any other EV, the RD6 also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) at up to 21 kW.

The Geely Riddara RD6 EV pick-up truck is slated to make its Thai debut at the upcoming TIME 2024 motor show. With the RD6 already confirmed to arrive in the northern neighbouring kingdom’s market, it begs the question of whether Geely has any plans to introduce this EV truck into our market…
