“More than just a fad, the switch to electric cars (EVs) is an essential in the battle against climate change. Adopting EVs is a critical step in lowering our dependency on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions,” said Datuk Dr Hazland Hipni, Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability.
Dr. Hazland's speech which was delivered by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap during the ‘EV Car’nival Day’ at the GWM Yuleehong showroom on Jalan Mendu, Sarawak, outlined that this change isn't just about environmental preservation but also a significant economic opportunity that positions Sarawak and Malaysia as a global leader in the shift towards a green economy.

He goes on to say that Sarawak is leading the way in green technology even beyond electric vehicles (EVs), as the state has made significant progress towards creating a hydrogen economy and intends to include hydrogen into its public transportation system via the planned Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system.
Furthermore, Sarawak's leadership in hydrogen-powered transportation will be further cemented with the establishment of hydrogen production facilities and refuelling stations around the region, not just in Malaysia.

Barry Ho, the Project Director of EVS Group, emphasised the significance of public involvement in expediting the adoption of electric vehicles in Sarawak. One such initiative was the speech on EV charging systems delivered by Victor Ranyis, Head of Electric Mobility at Sarawak Energy Berhad, at the "EV Car'nival Day".
By pushing for cutting-edge solutions like electric vehicles and hydrogen-powered transportation, Sarawak is demonstrating that the state is not only preparing for a more environmentally friendly future but also actively leading the way.
