Ministry Seeks Inclusion Of 3rd Phase Of PLUS Widening Project In Budget 2025
Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan is hopeful that Budget 2025 would include the proposed third phase of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) widening project, which would run from Simpang Renggam to Yong Peng Utara.
Ahmad Maslan stated that his ministry hopes the budget, which is scheduled to be presented in October, will incorporate the Johorean government's and residents' desire for the 41-kilometer (km) stretch to be expanded to Yong Peng Utara for better motorist comfort.
For the record, the first phase has already started and spans a distance of 21 kilometers, from Senai Utara to Sedenak. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced the second phase, which will run from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam.

“We hope the highway widening project can extend to Yong Peng Utara, and ideally further. We will present this proposal to the prime minister and the minister of finance,” he added during a press conference after officiating the Highway Concession Conference (HCC) 2024 here.
Based on the RM525 million cost of the first phase, the minister projected that the third phase would cost roughly RM1 billion. But the Ministry of Finance has the last say, he added..
It is reported that the government decided in October last year to increase the PLUS Expressway's lane count from four to six between Sedenak and Simpang Renggam in Johor. Anwar announced during his presentation of Budget 2024 that RM931 million would be allocated for the PLUS Expressway widening project in Johor.

Furthermore, on February 18, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad, the chairman of the Malaysian Highway Authority, announced that the project to widen the four lanes between Senai Utara and Sedenak to six lanes would start in June and be finished in 36 months.
