Third-Gen Peugeot 3008 & 5008 Gain New EV & PHEV Variants

Peugeot has introduced new long-range EV and PHEV variants for both the third-gen 3008 & 5008 SUVs.
French automaker Peugeot has expanded the lineup for its third-gen SUV duo—the Peugeot 3008 and 5008—in Europe today by introducing new long-range EV and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants for both models. These new variants complete the whole lineup for both SUV models, which previously comprised both the mild hybrid (MHEV) and baseline EV variants.

Starting with the new EV variants, both the new E-3008 and E-5008 Long Range 230 Electric models make do with a bigger 96.9-kWh battery pack that replaces the 73-kWh unit used on the ongoing Electric 210 variant. This new battery unit grants both models a better maximum EV range of up to 700 KM (WLTP) on the E-3008 and 668 KM (WLTP) on the bulkier E-5008.

Similar to their baseline twins, both the E-3008 and E-5008 Long Range 230 Electric are still powered by the same single-motor setup rated at 227 HP (170 kW), while their maximum DCFC rate is still capped at 160 kW.

As for the new PHEV variants, this semi-electrified setup features an updated version of Peugeot’s 1.6-litre 4-cyl turbocharged PureTech petrol mill that is now augmented with a single e-motor rated at 123 HP and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Combined, this whole system is capable of delivering a total system output of 192 HP and 350 NM.
Juicing said e-motor is a new 21-kWh battery pack that offers better zero-emission range for both models, despite its subpar total system output compared to the previous-gen powertrain. On the new 3008, this PHEV setup supplies an all-electric range of up to 84 KM, while the 5008 gets a slightly shorter EV range of 82 KM.
Despite harbouring an extra motor and a bigger battery pack, the 5008 PHEV still retains the same practicality level as its MHEV and full combustion counterparts—a testament to the stellar packaging of Stellantis’ proprietary STLA-Medium platform the SUV rides on.

These new variants of the third-gen Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUVs are slated to enter the European market right after making their public debut at the upcoming 2024 Paris Motor Show, which will take place later in Oct. The PHEV models will set European buyers about €40,990 (RM192,382) for the 3008 and €42,990 (RM201,769) for the 5008, while prices for the Long Range 230 Electric models are set to be announced soon.

Closer to home, it is no secret that Stellantis Malaysia is planning to replace the ongoing second-gen 3008 and 5008 SUVs with the new third-gen models. Given that the new e-3008 has been spotted roaming around our backyard recently, perhaps we’ll get to see that model launching first before anticipating the arrival of its bigger, three-rowed twin.
