EMA 2024: Driving ASEAN's Green Mobility Revolution with EV Innovations

Following its successful debut last year, E-Mobility Asia (EMA) is set to return this year, running from Nov 12 to 14.
This three-day event, themed "Electrifying the Future: Transitioning Innovations Towards Mobility," takes place at the KL Convention Centre, offering a comprehensive showcase of green transport solutions and business opportunities as electric vehicle (EV) demand surges across ASEAN.

EMA 2024 will be co-located with Sustainability Environment Asia (SEA), both organised by Derrisen Sdn Bhd, to promote sustainability and foster synergy between industries. The event will feature 100 international exhibitors from six countries and regions, and is expected to attract over 12,000 trade visitors.
The event provides a platform for businesses to showcase the latest innovations and solutions in areas such as battery technology, charging infrastructure, digital mobility, and automotive manufacturing (OEMs). Delegations from countries like India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand will be in attendance.

Additionally, the Networking Night on the second day offers an opportunity for key industry players to connect. The event will also feature over 60 speakers as part of its conference program and technical sessions, with participation from local and international organisations across ASEAN.
As key EMA Strategic Partners and Supporting Agencies, the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii), the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), and the Electric Vehicle Association of Malaysia (EVAM) will jointly host the EV Conference 2024 on Nov 12-13.

This conference will explore crucial topics such as accelerating EV adoption, evolving charging infrastructure, advancing sustainability through battery management, and emerging opportunities in ASEAN's EV markets.
MARii's CEO, Azrul Reza Aziz, highlighted the importance of the event, stating, “As the Strategic Partner for EMA 2024, MARii reaffirms its commitment to advancing technology and promoting sustainable growth in Malaysia's automotive sector. This event marks a key milestone in Malaysia's EV ecosystem, supporting the National Automotive Policy 2020’s goal of positioning Malaysia as a leading regional hub for assembling Next Generation Vehicles (NxGV), including EVs.”

Meanwhile, Dato’ Dennis Chuah, President of EVAM, emphasised EMA 2024’s role in promoting the growth of Malaysia’s EV industry and fostering sustainable mobility. “By bringing together industry leaders, stakeholders, and policymakers, we can drive the transition to cleaner, electrified transportation and create a more eco-friendly Malaysia.”
The Asian Federation of Electric Vehicle Associations (AFEVA) and its regional members from Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand will also support the event, facilitating valuable networking and knowledge exchange on industry policies and progress.
The ASEAN EV market is projected to reach US$2.7 billion by 2027, up from US$500 million in 2021. In 2023, EV sales in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore grew fourfold, with a strong upward trend continuing into 2024.

Malaysia aims to become an EV hub, with public transport expected to be 60% green and EVs comprising 80% of car sales by 2050.
According to Vicky Tan, Project Director at Derrisen, “E-mobility is set for significant growth in ASEAN, as decarbonization is essential for governments to meet climate goals and ensure sustainable economic growth and improved quality of life. EMA is proud to contribute to this green transformation alongside the many industry organisations supporting EMA 2024.”
EMA 2024 is endorsed by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), which offer enhanced tax incentives and double tax deductions for export promotion. For more details on the incentives, visit: www.matrade.gov.my.
