Proton Has Shifted 3.85 Million Sedans Since 1985

Over the course of more than 40 years since its founding, Proton has sold 3.85 million sedans in Malaysia, making it the most popular brand. National icons like the Proton Saga, Proton Wira, and Proton Waja—which were once used as police cars in Humberside County, United Kingdom—two generations of the Proton Persona, the Proton Prevé, and the most recent model, the Proton S70, have all contributed to the brand's success.

The Proton S70, which is said to be the most popular model in the C-sedan, has sold 14,877 units year to date as of September. With an average of 1,640 units sold each month since January of this year, overall sales have outpaced those of other competitors in the same category, leading sales in its segment, with the top three states being Selangor, Johor, and Penang.

Nonetheless, the Proton Saga is without a doubt the largest contributor to the pool. The dependable, useful, and reasonably priced sedan has an excellent range of safety features, a roomy cabin, and good fuel economy, all at an affordable price. This explains why the model has sold over two million units since its July 9, 1985, launch, through September, of this year.

In order to keep Proton sedans at the forefront of safety technology, the national carmaker has developed by adding timely safety updates to the models, such as airbags, seat belt pretensioners, hot-press forming body structures, and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). More recently, with the Proton S70, the company added ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) level 2 features, such as lane change assist, automated emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, and traffic sign information.
