Gentari & Mastercard Announce Partnership to Boost EV Adoption

Gentari & Mastercard have announced their collaborations towards accelerating EV adoption in the Asia-Pacific region.
Gentari has announced a partnership with Mastercard in support of Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030 and National Energy Transition Roadmap. The two parties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly promote EV adoption in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region through areas such as advertising, marketing, promotions, and digital payment solutions.
Through this partnership, Gentari will look forward to leveraging Mastercard’s strength and knowledge in digital payment solutions. Mastercard is no stranger to providing universal payment terminal solutions for EV charging stations, as the brand not only has provided seamless digital payment solutions for parking and toll payments but also with several CPOs in Europe for EV charging payments.

This adoption will also see Gentari maximising the possibility of its vast charging network, which features over 170 DC charging stations in Malaysia and over 3,800 charging points through its Vehicle-as-a-Service offering across Malaysia, Indonesia, and India. With seamless digital payment integration, both parties hope to further boost EV adoption not only in Malaysia but also in the APAC region as a whole.

Commenting on this newly-formed partnership, Shah Yang Razali, Gentari deputy CEO, said, “Mastercard’s expertise in innovative digital payment solutions that drive sustainable and inclusive growth aligns with Gentari’s vision of leveraging technology to improve efficiency and customer experiences. Through Gentari Go, we provide seamless access to clean energy solutions—from home solar to green mobility, including cross-border EV roaming.”
“With Mastercard’s advanced payment technology and extensive reach, we’re excited to explore how we can connect more people and communities as we strive to be the most valued green mobility solutions partner in the region," the DCEO added.
Meanwhile, Mastercard Malaysia and Brunei country manager Beena Pothen said, “Electric mobility is pivotal to shaping sustainable cities and economies of the future. By leveraging new technologies and innovations, along with collective effort, we can drive the seamless development of EV infrastructure.”
“This collaboration with Gentari embodies this vision, aligning with Mastercard’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and supporting the Malaysian government’s goals for greater digitalization and ESG implementation,” Beena added.
