Hyundai Elantra N TCR Edition Is a Track-Inspired Special with Massive Wing

The new Hyundai Elantra N TCR Edition is perhaps the closest you can get to actually owning a Hyundai touring car.
The Hyundai Elantra N stood as one of the few last bastions of performance saloons, offering drivers an exhilarating driving experience in a pretty practical yet sporty form. But in case you think this N-badged sporty saloon is still a tad too plain for your liking, Hyundai has just released a special version of the Elantra N, cordially known as the Hyundai Elantra N TCR Edition.

Inspired by its touring car sibling that just clinched the Driver’s title for the 2024 TCR World Tour championship at Macau Grand Prix season finale, the Elantra N TCR Edition gets some track-inspired upgrades over the standard model, with the most stand-out addition being the massive rear wing it comes with. Aesthetic purposes aside, Hyundai N claims this swan-neck carbon rear wing actually provides the car with better rear-end stability.

To go with the massive, GT-style rear wing, Hyundai has also fitted the Elantra N TCR Edition with lighter 19-inch N TCR forged alloy wheels, which promises to help reduce unsprung weight for sharper handling, while the standard brakes have been replaced with N Performance monoblock units with four-piston callipers for better stopping power.

Elsewhere on the aesthetic front, the Elantra N TCR is offered with a special TCR Edition decal in its native South Korean market, while the interior gets a slew of TCR Edition parts and badges, including the Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel.
Besides the beefier brakes and light-forged wheels, the Elantra N TCR Edition boasts no other mechanical upgrades over its civilian twin, as it continues to be powered by the same 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged engine that produces 276 HP and 392 NM, or up to 286 HP when the N Grin Shift overboost is activated. No words on what kind of transmissions are offered to this special edition model, but given the similar engine specs, we can expect both the six-speed manual and the 8-speed DCT automatic options to remain the same as the standard version.

The all-new Hyundai Elantra N TCR Edition is slated to hit the South Korean market some time later in December this year, followed by the rest of the globe later in 2025. And just like the standard Elantra N, this special edition would also be an almost unattainable unicorn for our market, as local Hyundai vanguard Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) only offers the Elantra in its vanilla, non-N-badged form.
